Meet Ama Diya Dannu

We were lucky to catch up with Ama Diya Dannu recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ama Diya , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

I was raised on ancestral dream knowledge and remained connected to my ancestral lineages, standing on a firm and stable foundation of identity and purpose. However, even though I grew up in a matriarchal tradition within a patriarchal society, I found myself at times questioning if the knowledge that was passed on to me, and if my intuition, was valid. Are these valid sources of knowledge? According to the Eurocentric worldview (especially colonialism), dreams are not a place to look for valid knowledge. They are only useful for assisting the dreamer in working on their own individual psychological issues. Intuition was/is relegated to gut feeling and overlooked as a pathway to deepening one’s relationship to dream knowledge and alternative ways of knowing.

It wasn’t until I finished my master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology that I began to unlearn those beliefs and openly embrace what my ancestors taught me. Ancestral dream knowledge was always acknowledged in secret; it was something never to be proud of in public.

When I tried sharing this knowledge within the women’s and goddess spirituality spaces, I began to question if I had the right or authority to speak about the ancestral knowledge passed down to me. It seemed most of the women who were white were touted as the authority on the subject matter, so who was I, a woman of mixed ancestry and heritage, to speak about it? Who was I to add value to it? I felt like an imposter in these spaces because I did not have the accolades, the audience, the groups, or the “name” in the industry to be an authority. Therefore, in my eyes, the knowledge I was gifted with, the memories of past lives, and the gifts that came with the ancestral knowledge were of no value to anybody outside of myself and my family.

It wasn’t until after I began presenting at several academic conferences that I realized the value of the knowledge entrusted to me. Many of the women in these spaces, academic and non-academic alike, were unfamiliar with what I was presenting. Most were disconnected from their deep ancestral roots, and I realized it wasn’t a matter of me not being of value. It was a matter of timing.

Most importantly, it was all about me believing in myself to the point of releasing the need to prove myself and my ancestries to any being of flesh and blood. Because at the end of the day, I know what my purpose is. If today were my last day, I would leave this plane of existence with something most people dream of obtaining, attaining, and embodying.

I know myself, and that, in and of itself, is far more valuable than trying to present oneself as an authority. I chose my matriarchal roots over patriarchal performative behavior.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am of the Seven Mothers of Creation, both a progenitor and a descendant. I am she who walks amongst her descendants. Being a Spiritual Midwife means assisting people – and in particular, women – with rebirthing themselves and rebirthing the awareness of the Primordial Mothers into the world and the consciousness of humanity: the people of the world.

I am of a lineage that works intricately with the concept of Rebirth. Do you know the cycle of Life, Preservation, and Death? Well, it’s “Life, Preservation, and Rebirth” (which includes Death). This is deeply rooted within ancient matriarchies and their traditions and lineages.

My focus is working with women to discover and realign themselves with their root womb lineage mother(s) so that they can build a better life and future with the guidance of their wise ancestral Mothers. My task is to help align and initiate them into those mysteries. Once this is accomplished, I remove myself from the picture, allowing the relationship between Mother and Divine Child to flourish and grow. I ensure I make myself available in the event there are questions, however, I will not get in the way of how a newly aligned woman interacts with and cultivates that relationship.

Ultimately, my soul-mission is to help humanity remember the sacredness of relationships through a mother-centered approach. At the end of the day, humanity needs the earth; the earth does not need humanity.

At this time, I am developing an online space for women to unlearn patriarchal tethers and relearn through matriarchal concepts as they were taught to me. This will spill over into offline spaces for greater connection and community. We need to do more than just talk about this process of unlearning and relearning; we need embodiment practices to release from our bodies what we are unlearing and integrate what we are learning.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

-Critical thinking is very important; we need to get back to this and apply it to everything we do.

-Discernment is key in all things we engage in and do. Knowing how to separate what’s in alignment and what isn’t is just as important.

-Integrity of relationships – honoring the sacredness in our relationships is paramount to evolving; being honest about your approach is important.

The interweaving of these three skills is so very important that I cannot stress this enough. Getting in touch with your root origins and womb lineage mothers requires going through your genealogy, but that will only get you so far. You need to understand how things came to be and be patient with yourself as you uncover uncomfortable truths.

The process is not about being friends with toxic memories; it’s about acknowledging it and transcending its toxicity in order to arrive at the source.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is a woman who is willing and ready to do the work. ALL of the work. She recognizes that she has reached a point in her gifts, practice, and life of great accomplishments materialistically, but feels that there is more spiritually and cannot place her finger on what that is.

She is the one who hears and feels the calling of the primordial ones yet does not know how to respond – what the first steps are, the protocols, and the processes. Ideally, she is 40 years or older or about to turn 40. The reason is that, in ancient times, the Mothers initiated their daughters at that age and older. This is the point where we have crossed the threshold of experience. Whether she has children or not does not matter; what matters is her conviction to honor her most wise, ancient ancestral Mothers and the legacy/legacies she is entrusted with.

That being said, there is always the rare exception. Those slightly younger might need a nudge and gentle guidance. If they are willing to commit to the work, then they are welcome to learn.
