Meet Amaka Marchie

We were lucky to catch up with Amaka Marchie recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Amaka, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I had a lot of rejection therapy, before I even knew what it was called. I learned very early that closed mouths don’t get fed, so I was very vocal about what I wanted out of life. Not everyone was able to help me, but all I needed was one person to say yes. One person turns into two, then four. Before I knew it, I had so many people in my corner that spoke life into me and supported my ambitions. My community helped me believe in myself, and now I truly feel like I can do anything I set my mind to.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My North Star has always been finding ways to highlight people that excel at the art they create. Right now, I do this through my podcast, Colorful Theories, where I interview creatives about their journeys and the stories behind their art. What makes it special to me is how I can tap into my inner child with my guests and just unplug for an hour while we talk about anything over a coloring book. It’s meant to be therapeutic. The goal is to expand our reach to LA and New York in 2025. I’d love for people to watch and suggest guests who inspire them. You can learn more about us on linktr.ee/colorfultheories

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three things that were most impactful to me were resilience, video editing, and advertising. My advice for each:

Resilience: Things change all the time, but I still express gratitude daily. Slow motion is still motion. Roll with the punches and plan accordingly.

Video Editing: We live in a visual world, and people are more likely to tap in if you can make things look pretty. Pay attention to what you like to watch. What do you like about it? Reverse engineer it and learn on YouTube to make things exactly to your liking.

Advertising: In most cases, your work is moot if nobody knows about it. Test your work organically on social media to see what resonates creatively. Test small ad campaigns behind the things that perform well.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

I have to put my phone down at night and make a hard cut off time. Cozy up with a good book instead of doomscrolling. A morning yoga session and a journal entry definitely helps get my mind right.
