We recently connected with Amanda Chavez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from the example set by my father, who came from Mexico at just 14 years old with nothing and worked tirelessly to build a life for himself. I watched him wake up every day at 4 a.m. and come home at 6 p.m., and it was through his dedication and perseverance that I learned the value of hard work. Now, I wake up at 5 a.m. every day for my full-time job, and often my workdays don’t end until 11 p.m. when I do tans on the side. In addition, my man, who has run his own business for the last eight years, has always shown me what it means to be committed. I’ve seen him work 24/7, and his drive and determination have been incredibly inspiring.
My father, sister and my man were my inspiration to start my own business and follow into their footsteps.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been a full-time Officer the last four years, going on five. Just two years ago I started my own business as well. I specialize in offering sunless tans, which provide a safe and healthy alternative to sun tanning. What I love most about what I do is not only the transformation I see in my clients but also the education I get to share. I am incredibly passionate about being a BIPOC specialist and raising awareness about the importance of skin cancer prevention. Many people of color don’t realize that they are at a higher risk of melanoma than any other race, and I feel it’s crucial to educate my community about this. My brand is all about sleekness and confidence, helping people feel their best while staying safe in the sun. For anyone interested in learning I also offer 1:1 sunless training!
I’m also thrilled to announce that we’ll be celebrating our 2-year anniversary on April 12th from 5-9 p.m. at RSRV Austin on 7th Street. It’s going to be an exciting evening, and I’d love for everyone to come out and join the celebration!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that are most impactful in my journey are perseverance, confidence, and what I call “delusion”—the belief in yourself even when the odds seem impossible. Perseverance kept me going through setbacks, confidence helped me trust my abilities, and “delusion” is that inner drive to keep moving forward and thinking beyond my current reality, seeing potential where others don’t.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to develop these qualities: keep pushing through setbacks, trust yourself even when doubt creeps in, and believe in your vision, even when others don’t see it yet. Sometimes, you have to convince yourself first.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have always been a guiding light in my faith journey, teaching me the importance of living with love, compassion, and unwavering belief in Jesus Christ. From a young age, they showed me how to trust in God’s plan and rely on His grace during difficult times.
My parents also taught me the value of hard work and resilience. My father, in particular, worked tirelessly to build a life for himself. Watching him get up early every day and come home late in the evening showed me the importance of dedication and perseverance. My mother, on the other hand, always emphasized the value of education and encouraged me to push through challenges, no matter how difficult they seemed. Both of them instilled in me the mindset that with hard work, patience, strong will, and my faith I could achieve anything I set my mind to.
