We were lucky to catch up with Amanda Glass recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My sense of generosity comes from my maternal grandmother, in whom I am named after. She was a beacon of light and showed kindness to everyone she met. My grandmother Amanda passed away when I was 10 years old. At her funeral, the small church in South Carolina, there was no empty seat and the aisles were lined with people to pay their respects and give their condolences. Everyone who spoke about her, told of her generosity in how she would give of her time and food to anyone who needed a helping hand.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At this present time, I am most excited about the upcoming release of the Lifetime movie: “He had Seven Wives,” on November 12, 2023. I am so honored to have been apart of this project. It is intriguing and full of drama of course.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are (1) the ability to bounce back – to come back and fight again and again after dealing with a perceived setback, (2) the skill of storytelling – being to articulate a story or real life happening in an interesting or entertaining way, and (3) knowledge of self – having a basic knowledge who are and who you are not as a person by way of setting boundaries for yourself and others. The advice I have for folks who are early in their journey of how they can best develop or improve on these is to ask themselves what is it they really want in their life, set your intentions, and seize opportunities that help further what you initial goal(s).
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was allowing me to live with my maternal grandparents for the first five years of my life. My parents were so young when they married and had me. They were wise enough to know they need a lot of help and accepted that help from my grandmother Amanda and grandfather Harry. Amanda and Harry were my foundation. As a child, I had a sense of freedom to be just me under their watch. They showed me what a truly committed relationship looked like and importance of family.
