We recently connected with Amanda Joy Christensen and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda Joy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Moving to Las Vegas looks was always at the forefront of every successful avenue of media, hospitality, and entertainment. There were plenty of times in my career, where I was told I would never be a CEO or Executive or “Front of House” person, because my physical appearance was not like most ladies. I worked towards finding ways to make simple changes externally, but I’d be lying if I still didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin in Las Vegas. How I overcame the feeling is I studied, I learned, I trained, and I focused on sharpening skills. I asked leaders in all areas I had an interest in to show me within reason how to become a stronger more valuable player for my BRAIN power, verses look. Success is never defined by how someone looks on the outside, despite the old motto’s first impressions matter. Yes, they do, but doesn’t giving someone a chance to show and demonstrate their worth outweigh, isolating someone’s opportunity due to external looks?

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hospitality is a game of impact, influence, and service. My current business venture is the launch of my second season of Valley Views , a podcast exclusively hosted on Spotify and Amazon. The topics focus on hospitality, family, and Las Vegas and provides a deep, real, and impactful conversation on changing View Points. In a time where hospitality is on the verge of a sudden life altering shift on standards and service, I’m pushing the edge on topics and conversations you won’t find on casino marketing campaigns. Being a believer in free speech, journalism, and a Las Vegas local, I hope you join in on sharing your own story on this Valley Views movement.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The top 3 qualities a successful person needs is resilience, perseverance, and grace. Without truly knowing and understanding these qualities you’ll fall short ever time. Nothing will ever be the way it seems, without the ability to turn around and imagine and create. Resilience is needed when life gets hard. Perserverance is needed when you don’t know the way out, but you need a way through. Grace is the only way to find forgiveness and humbleness for yourself and others.
