We were lucky to catch up with Amanda Litzinger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Developing my confidence and self esteem is an ongoing dance I do with myself. For me, it’s about showing up, honoring my word and keeping promises I’ve made to myself. One practice I discovered recently that reached down deep into my self-esteem was allowing myself to be imperfect. Telling myself: “I’m allowed to learn slowly.” That act of self-kindness reconnected me to my childhood self, leaving me feeling very powerful and whole.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have a clothing brand called Stickybaby. My designs are for people who are sensitive but strong, soft without being small and self-expressive, not performative. This project is about far more than just clothing, though I find the beauty within art and fashion deeply important and moving. Stickybaby is about waking up and being decidedly yourself. Donning a bold, plaid pair of pink short-shorts with knee high socks, or a classically cut denim dress that reminds you of how you dressed in school as a wild child. I get really excited when someone smiles at my bright-pink tie-dye tights as I’m walking down the street. And it makes my life feel complete when my customers tell me their wonderful stories, living heroic and magical lives wearing my clothes. I’ve just released a new collection filled with newspaper print capri pants with a matching hoodie, silk striped shorts and hand bags with giant bows on them colored like taffy clouds.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Willingness to learn and improve. 2. Willingness to believe in yourself and your project before anyone else does. 3. Persistence, trying and trying and casting one more line out before falling asleep at night. Basically you’ve got to be okay with maybe looking silly, you’ve got to be brave almost to the point of foolishness and you need to put a little bit more gas in your effort tank than average.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My mother taught my how to sew and my father purchased and had delivered stacks of fashion design and entrepreneurship books to our house. Also they always looked at me in awe.
