Meet Amanda Marie Barr

We were lucky to catch up with Amanda Marie Barr recently and have shared our conversation below.

Amanda Marie, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Wow, I’m really still learning this, as it’s an everyday battle! It’s something I bring up in therapy all the time. But I usually just try and think of things that I have accomplished, and tell myself that I am the one who did it. I still feel those strong feelings of imposter syndrome from time to time, but it’s a litter easier to manage once I force myself to take a step back.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Amanda Marie Barr, and I run the Instagram/Tik Tok called @PhillyFoodandBarrs. We highlight local restaurants mostly in the Philadelphia area and surrounding counties, as well as my own personal travel ventures. I also focus on things to do in that area, movies and theatre, and whatever else comes to mind or seems fun to make content about!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say flexibility – things aren’t always going to do how you want, and you need to be willing to change your own vision. I also would say drive and passion – if you don’t care about what you’re doing, or you’re only doing it for money or power or status, I believe that it’s very evident from your work. People who love what they’re doing, it’s easy to tell because that passion is infectious.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My best friends have really helped me stay grounded, keep my spirits up if I’m feeling discouraged, and believed in me far before I believed in myself. I also have met people from running Philly Food and Barrs who have become very dear friends. They almost paved the way for me, and they guide me through parts of this industry where otherwise I would be a ship without a lighthouse to guide me home. I am beyond grateful for all these humans who care enough about me to be my rock.
