We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Reifert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Amanda, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care for me is spending time doing what I love! This includes playing video games, jamming out at the gym, taking hot baths, creative writing, catching up on my fave shows, and reading before bedtime. Beauty truly does come from within. If we don’t take care of our physical and mental health, we’ll never be able to look our best.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a little girl, I was always in costume. Year-round, you’d find me dressing up as Disney princesses, Toy Story characters, superheroes, and so much more. I loved dressing up, and I LOVED being the center of attention. Having my picture taken was one of my favorite things!
When I was 16, I had my first professional photoshoot modeling clothes for my mom’s boutique, Clothes Minded. I continued modeling for Clothes Minded for the next decade; this was when I truly fell in love with modeling. Getting dressed up, doing my hair and makeup, driving all over town hunting for the best backdrops…it all was so much fun!
Since then, I’ve worked with other local businesses, modeling for their marketing pieces and social media pages. I’m a signed artist with Contagion Media, and I’ve been featured on the cover of Malvie magazine! Through my agency, I offer catalogue, commercial, editorial, fashion, boudoir, and implied nudity modeling services. I’m open to trying new things and exploring different avenues of expression. I consider my work to be an adventure!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Confidence, adaptability, and passion. These qualities are crucial for anyone starting their creative journey. You can work on your confidence by using positive self-talk and focusing on your strengths. Adaptability can be developed by cultivating an open mindset and fostering resilience. Increase your passion by staying curious and seeking inspiration. Fake it till you make it!
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
‘A New Model’ by Ashley Graham was life-changing for me. She’s always been an inspiration – we share the same mindset when it comes to using the term “plus-size” (it’s divisive and outdated), and her message about body positivity and self-acceptance definitely encouraged me to pursue modeling. Plus, we’re both from Lincoln, Nebraska! Here’s one of my favorite quotes from the book – “The secret is learning what works for you and not worrying about what anyone else says or thinks.”
