We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda “the Aunt” Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
When I encounter a creativity block, I have a few strategies I rely on to get through it. I often take a break to clear my mind, whether that’s going for a walk or doing something else entirely. This helps me come back with fresh ideas. Changing my environment also makes a big difference, as a new setting can spark new inspiration. If I’m still stuck, I’ll engage in freewriting or brainstorming to explore different directions without worrying about perfection. I also break my tasks into smaller, manageable goals to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes, seeking feedback or finding inspiration in books, movies, or other art helps me see things from a new angle. Lastly, I’ve learned to accept that creativity ebbs and flows, so I allow myself time to work through the block rather than force it. These methods help me stay productive and keep my creativity flowing.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m part of a comedy duo with my fiancé, and we call ourselves The Aunt and The Uncle. Together, we bring a fun, relatable energy to our comedy, offering laughs through our unique dynamic and the playful chemistry we share. What’s truly exciting about what we do is the way we’re able to connect with our audience. We take pride in creating an atmosphere where people can relax, laugh, and enjoy themselves without judgment. It’s all about sharing moments of joy and making people feel like they’re part of something special.
In addition to comedy, I’m also deeply involved in marketing, non-profit work and event planning. My good friend Yessi and I have started our event title “nightshift gals”. Working night shifts in retail every day we came together on a huge womans celebration event and it’s been growing since them. We now help clients design and execute events that leave lasting impressions, from intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations. I love working on the behind-the-scenes details, ensuring everything is executed flawlessly while adding a touch of creativity to make every event stand out. Also have had to pleasure of assisting a non-profit “project sisterdope/workers wellness”. Project Sist3rdope’s mission is to provide emergency and life event funds to support the essential workers of the cannabis industry, fostering a community of care, support, and advocacy.
I’m especially excited about some upcoming projects, including new comedy shows we’re working on with The Aunt and The Uncle and expanding my event planning services to bring even more people together for unforgettable experiences. Stay tuned for some exciting announcements soon along with some new merchandise!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, I’d say the three most impactful qualities have been resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning. Resilience has allowed me to navigate setbacks and failures without losing momentum, reminding me that challenges are opportunities to grow rather than roadblocks. Adaptability has been key, especially as I’ve had to pivot, adjust, and evolve in an ever-changing environment—being comfortable with discomfort and embracing new situations has helped me stay flexible. Finally, continuous learning has been crucial in keeping me relevant and innovative, driving me to seek out new knowledge and skills. My advice for those early in their journey is to build resilience by viewing failures as part of the process, stretch your adaptability by stepping outside your comfort zone, and cultivate a habit of learning—whether it’s through formal education or self-guided exploration. Growth comes from being open, consistent, and willing to embrace what’s next.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
One book that has played a significant role in my development is *Feeding the Soul (Because It’s My Business)* by Tabitha Brown. This book has been a powerful reminder to live authentically and nourish not just the body, but the soul. One of the most impactful lessons from Tabitha’s writing is the importance of patience and trusting the process. She encourages readers to listen to their inner voice, embrace their unique path, and have faith that everything will unfold as it should—even when it doesn’t make sense at the time. She also stresses the importance of self-care and the idea that taking care of yourself is vital to fulfilling your purpose. Tabitha’s warmth and positivity are contagious, and her wisdom has helped me learn to believe in myself more fully and move forward with love, even when the journey feels uncertain. Her book ties beautifully with the lessons from *Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway* by Susan Jeffers, reinforcing the idea that, despite fear and uncertainty, we can move ahead with trust, resilience, and self-love.
