Meet Amanda Torres

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda Torres a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Amanda, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Throughout the last five years of owning my small business, there have been many moments when giving up would have been easier than pushing through. I have come to realize that giving up would only steer me further away from my overall goals. I’ve also learned to embrace challenges and view them as learning opportunities and a way for my business to grow. This mindset shift has made all the difference in my success.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I started my small business a little over five years ago. As a first time mom at the time, I wanted a creative outlet and something I could do for myself. When I first began, I wasn’t very sure of my direction and where it would lead me. Over the last few years, I have built a successful business within my community that has grown to more than I could’ve ever imagined. The Love Language specializes in custom balloon installs and backdrop setups for all types of events. This ranges from birthday parties, baby showers, bridal showers, graduations, weddings and much more. My favorite part of my business is knowing how much joy our setups bring to our clients and to their events. We are honored to be a small part of some of their most special memories. There is no better feeling than spending weeks prepping for an event to finally completing a setup and getting the recognition that our clients loved our work. I’m truly grateful for my small business and the growth and success it has achieved!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

One of the most important qualities that has been impactful on my journey is remaining humble. I come from humble beginnings so this mindset has always been important to me and something I even teach my children. Despite my achievements, I don’t think of myself as the best and I know there is always room for improvement.

Another important piece to my journey is communication. Before I started my business, I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Communication Studies. I think the best way to succeed in any business is keeping an open flow of communication and allowing your clients to communicate with you with anything they may need. I make sure we are communicating about every aspect of their setup leading up to their event. This eliminates any confusion and creates a more enjoyable experience for everyone!

Gratitude has also been a staple throughout my journey. I am incredibly grateful for my business and I realize that I would not be in my position without the support of my family, friends and clients. I am thankful for the big and small achievements and I believe the more grateful you are for these moments, the more they will come to you.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal client would be someone who most importantly values my work. They would give me direction on the vision for their event but also leave me some creative freedom. I’m so thankful to have been able to work with so many of these amazing clients!
