Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amanda Wan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Amanda, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I think imposter syndrome is something I will never fully “overcome”, as it’ll be a constant as my business and content grows, but I always try to remind myself that my journey is mine. Everyone that is on their own business journeys, is on their OWN – and we shouldn’t be comparing. I remind myself of all the success I’ve had and that it’s not a race.
I think one thing I’ve done that’s been helpful, is tracking all my goals and milestones and looking back at it when I think that I don’t deserve it or I’m not doing as well as others.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Straight out of university, I jumped into pursuing my business full time, and it’s been a challenge but one of the best things I could have done for myself. I knew the corporate 9-5 was not for me, so I took a leap and a chance on myself, and here we are.
I run my own business known as, Wan Media, which is a digital agency passionate about bringing your brand vision to life through content strategy and marketing. I offer video and audio editing, social media management and content strategy. I also am a full time content creator, creating lifestyle, entrepreneurship, pop culture and mindset content across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Youtube and Podcasts.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Organization, time management and motivation are the 3 qualities that if I lacked, I don’t think i’d be where I am at today.
If you’re just starting out, I’d say organization is key – especially with taxes. I’d also say, to make sure you’re also having fun – no one wants to run their own business and be miserable, leave space for fun.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Financial security and insecurity is something I’ve been learning to deal with. Going from getting paid twice a month, to just once took a lot of getting used to, and a lot of budgeting practice. I still struggle at times or feel like I’m not doing as well as others financially, but again, it’s not a race.
