Meet Ama’ray Frazier

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ama’ray Frazier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ama’ray, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Understanding your value and purpose is the key to being effective and successful. This is something that took me awhile to understand and God helped me to open my mind to who I am and my purpose. Once you align yourself and focus on what truly matters in life, you can’t be stopped by anything or anyone. We all stumble, become afraid, bail out, start to doubt and question wether or not we are good enough for something, but, we are never defined by those thoughts and feelings but we are defined by how we choose to address, approach and handle every situation and feeling that comes our way. This perspective is what keeps me on my A game, no matter what situation I find myself in or what room I walk into.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Being an all around filmmaker is a blessing and it’s something that I live by everyday. I love my life and what I do and I’ll always strive to make each thing of mine better than the last, while paying homage to all of my work. The most exciting and special part about this career and lifestyle is that it never stops and there’s never a dull moment in time. Being able to bring your, mental, physical and spiritual vision to life is a dream come true and a blessing from God. My directorial debut is coming soon and I can’t wait to share my first ever short film with the world, so, best believe it will be big in terms of scale, performances, color and direction.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Stay humble, start and continue to practice and learn the basics of what you are interested in. This has taken me far in life and is the best piece of advice I will give to anyone seeking it.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Jesus Christ is the one and only who I can call upon for anything and he has propelled me in a direction that I can only be eternally grateful for in everything I do and every season of my life.
