Meet Amber Graham

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber Graham. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Amber, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I attribute my work ethic to my dad. My dads work ethic has a deeply rooted impact on mine. By observing his dedication, perseverance, and diligence in tasks; I learned the value of hard work. He taught me the importance of responsibility. I cultivated commitment to achieving my goals through watching him. The qualities that I saw in him inspired me to adopt a similar mindset and approach to my endeavors in life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
What can I say? I’m a millennial from Detroit with something to say! Corny tag lines aside, writing has always been one of my passions. As I navigate the murky waters of adulthood, I’m focused on pursuing more of my aspirations as a writer and podcast host. There is great power in words and I hope to use mine to make the world a better place. Even if they make a small difference, I think I will have served my purpose.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Whew, just three! There have been so many. For starters, I would say communication skills. Learning how to effectively communicate in order to build strong relationships, resolve conflict and convey my ideas. Being able to express myself articulately and the ability to understand others is important to me. In a similar way, emotional intelligence has played a major role in my journey. I had to learn how to control my emotions especially when it comes to speaking on social platforms. Doing so has also helped me make sound decisions and foster collaborations with those who have differing beliefs. Lastly, I would say adaptability and resilience. Life is full of transitions and hurdles. Learning how to adjust and pivot is vital. Being able to adapt to new situations, learn from my failures, and recoup from setbacks is a valuable skill. My resilience has allowed me to maintain a positive outlook on life. Above all my faith in God keeps me moving forward.
As far as advice, find your why, keep your faith and don’t allow life’s hurdles to come between the two.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have done so much for me and made so many sacrifices. But above all, the most impactful thing they’ve done for me is love me unconditionally. They have always provided safety for me through challenging times which help build my resilience. They’ve always encouraged and supported me regardless of how far fetched my ideas have been . All while providing me healthy doses of reality to keep me centered. Whenever I doubt myself they remind me of my abilities and push me to keep going. They instilled morals and ethics in me that created the foundation of who I am today. Their love is the closest human form of agape love I’ve ever experienced.
