We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amber Portis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amber below.
Hi Amber, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from God, for real. Once you know and realize who you are and who God has called you to be, there’s no other option but to be resilient. There are days where it’s just me and Him when my community is not available. He is always with me, ALWAYS. I would also say seeing my mom dust herself off and try again growing up, it taught me that there will always be challenges, but with prayer and faith, you can persevere and keep going. Being an entrepreneur taught me this as well! If you want to build resilience, be an entrepreneur LOL.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Of course! My name is Amber, and I like to say I’m your favorite multi-faceted Gen Z girly. By day, I work as an Executive Assistant, and by night I pour into the businesses God has called me to build. I’m the founder of A.Greenhouse, my faith-based virtual assistant agency, and I’m also a personal trainer and wellness hype girl through my brand Root’d with Amber. Every now and then, you can catch me on my podcast, Keepin’ It Green, where I talk about faith, wellness, and entrepreneurship.
What makes my work special is that everything I do is rooted in wellness, faith, and Southern hospitality. Whether I’m supporting a client in their business or their health journey, I lead with care, warmth, and top-tier excellence. I’m passionate about mental health, leadership, and professional development, and I love helping high-achieving women create lives and businesses that feel good on the inside and not just polished on the outside.
As far as what’s new, A.Greenhouse is expanding its services to include more corporate and leadership development support, and Root’d with Amber is rolling out wellness experiences designed to help women build healthier, more sustainable lifestyles. I’m also growing my podcast and working on more community-based events that blend faith, wellness, and entrepreneurship.
Outside of work, you can usually find me resetting at a local coffee shop, singing my heart out to R&B music, or laughing with my family and friends because we are truly a circle full of comedians.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three main qualities or skills I would say are the most impactful in your journey would be professionalism, authenticity, and self awareness. The advice I have for folks who are early in their journey on personal/professional development or improving on these is getting a mentor and leaning into your community. You CANNOT do this life alone. There’s a saying that says if you want to go fast, do it alone but if you want to something to last long, do it with community. I always encourage people to know they are NEVER alone. There is always someone in their corner. Your job is to make sure you ask for help.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is a high-achieving Black woman who looks polished and powerful on the outside but quietly carries the weight of being everything for everyone. She is an entrepreneur, creative, or corporate leader who loves God, values excellence, and is deeply committed to her personal growth, but she often feels overwhelmed, unsupported, and stretched thin. She wants a life and business that feel good on the inside, not just presentable on the outside, and she desires systems, wellness, and structure that allow her to breathe again. She’s ready for a trusted partner who brings warmth and care into her world while helping her build a sustainable, peaceful rhythm rooted in faith, wellness, and aligned success.
