We were lucky to catch up with Amber Reda recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I picked up photography as an adult, so in the beginning I did feel like an imposter at times compared to those who have been doing photography their whole lives. I’d question if my work really was good enough. I turned my focus to progress and self growth instead of comparison. Over time, seeing my clients’ reactions to their images and returning business gave me the confidence that I was bringing real value, even if my path into photography was different from others

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a newborn, maternity, and family photographer in the Nashville area. There is something so special about capturing those fleeting moments — the tiny details of a brand new baby, the connection between expectant parents, or the joy and chaos of family life. What I love most is knowing that my work becomes part of a family’s story. Years from now these photos will be what they look back on to remember exactly how life felt in that season.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three things really made the biggest difference in my journey. The first was truly learning every aspect of my camera so I could handle any lighting situation or moment with confidence. The second was investing in my education through workshops and safety training, especially when working with newborns. Knowing how to safely pose and handle babies is just as important as creating beautiful images. The third was spending countless hours learning from videos and other resources, which helped me refine my editing style and develop my own creative voice.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Over the past year, my biggest area of growth has been creating an elevated experience for my clients. I moved out of my home studio and into a beautiful professional studio space.
The move has also helped my business grow, attracting more bookings from clients who are drawn to the professional, welcoming environment. It’s been such a joy to welcome families into a place where they can truly relax and enjoy the experience while I capture these important moments for them.
