We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amber Tolbert a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
To be honest I’ve always known it was something in me but I didn’t quite at the time know it was called purpose. I just knew I had a great amount of passion for the things I loved doing. My success, helping others, loving myself and my family. I wanted to leave my 9 to 5 to focus on my business and was terrified of leaving and going through the uncertainty. But one morning I stepped out on faith and did it. It was truly the best decision I ever made. It built my confidence. It placed me right in front of problem-solving and correcting not just in business but my mindset. I didn’t have a foundation as a child. So when it was time to have my children I was determined to have a solid foundation for them. I know goals without a plan is just a dream. Being able to take my reset and get back to Amber. Like the real Amber was my purpose.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a mother of five establishing my own in this world. I’ve never really had a foundation in my life, so creating one for me and my family is so important. I worked for a company for over ten years and decided I wanted more and stepped out on faith. I quit my job to pursue my business full-time. Honestly, I can say it was the best decision made. The core of me is passion, so I make sure it’s present in everything I do. I’m the owner of Blooming Buds Candles here in Dallas, TX. People know it as BAE! The thought of it makes me so proud and puts a smile on my face. We specialize in Seduction and Vibe Things. I’ve created a huge variety of specialty soy candles, room and car sprays, massage, and body oils, and I am currently in the process of expanding even more. You will not get the Blooming Buds Experience from anywhere else but us, I guarantee it. What keeps me going in evolving my brand is getting those customers to reach out to me and let me know my candles bring them back to where they need to be. To get comments like I was having a crappy day until I lit one of your candles and it calmed my spirits, or my candle fragrances filled their entire house and made them feel warm and happy, people coming from far areas to support me at a local pop-up, and my candles brought passion back into their relationship. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’m excited to announce that Blooming Buds Candles is now a Wal-Mart and Amazon seller, and I look forward to evolving more as a person and in business in the future.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’ve always been keen on empathy, love, and support. I know how to read people very well. Being able to communicate with people has gotten me so far. It’s so natural. Communication is key. You have to get out of your way and get yourself out there. It will work, you just have to take the first step. Research everything even if you feel like you’re already a pro at it. Additional knowledge is always good. There will be trials and errors but learn from them and improve. And most importantly KEEP GOING!
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
In a year I’ve been able to focus on my spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, and social growth. I call it my Master Reset. Honestly, it was hard, to the point where I had to take the journey alone to get a full understanding of it. But I did it and wouldn’t trade this space right now for anything!
