We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amber Zuniga a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism comes from a deep belief that things can always change and grow—even when they’re hard. I’ve learned through experience that challenges, while uncomfortable, often lead to the most meaningful breakthroughs. Whether it’s watching the seasons shift, healing from something difficult, or seeing someone I care about rise after a setback, I’ve been reminded again and again that life has a way of moving forward. That gives me hope. I don’t ignore the hard stuff, but I choose to look for the possibility within it.
I also think my optimism is rooted in connection—with others, with nature, and with moments of quiet clarity. When I’m grounded in those connections, it’s easier to trust that I’m not alone in whatever I’m facing. It reminds me that even in uncertainty, there’s always a thread of goodness to follow. I try to nurture that mindset by staying curious, being kind, and celebrating small wins. To me, optimism isn’t about pretending everything is fine—it’s about choosing to believe that better is always possible.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that had the most impact on my journey have been kindness, perseverance, and a fierce work ethic. Kindness—both toward others and myself—has helped build lasting relationships and foster trust, which are essential in any meaningful work. Perseverance allowed me to keep showing up, even when things felt uncertain or overwhelming. And a fierce work ethic ensured I consistently followed through, stayed committed to growth, and upheld a standard of excellence, even when no one was watching.
For those early in their journey, these qualities aren’t just innate—they can be developed through intention and practice. Kindness can begin with small, consistent gestures of respect and empathy. Perseverance grows by meeting challenges head-on and learning from failure without giving up. And a strong work ethic is cultivated by showing up fully, being accountable, and taking pride in every step—no matter how small. Stay grounded, stay curious, and never underestimate the power of doing the work with heart.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I love this question so much. With only 10 years left to live, my heart and mind immediately turn toward simplicity, presence, and joy. The idea of working less doesn’t come from a place of disengagement, but from a deep desire to live more intentionally—to trade hustle for heart, and deadlines for daydreams. I imagine chasing sunrises and sunsets, especially on quiet beaches where the sky melts into the water and time feels like it stands still. I’d walk every trail my legs could carry me on, breathing in the stillness of the trees, the crunch of earth beneath my feet, and the beauty of each step, no matter how ordinary.
What would matter most is connection—gathering with loved ones often, lingering over meals, laughing until it hurts, and collecting moments that feel like little forever’s. I’d want to surround myself with stories, with music, with wonder, and with people who remind me why life is worth showing up for fully. The goal wouldn’t be to accomplish more, but to feel more: more light, more gratitude, more awe. To live with an open heart, savor the present, and leave behind a trail of kindness and love—that would be the true legacy.
