We were lucky to catch up with Ammara Zaheer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ammara, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from facing tough times and challenges. I draw strength from the obstacles I encounter, and even from people who don’t support or believe in me. The negativity, jealousy, and criticism I receive only push me to grow stronger and make me more determined. Rather than letting these things break me, they fuel my perseverance and push me to stand firm and keep moving forward.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The story behind how I started as an event designer is simple. I’m madly in love with designing and decorating events. From a young age, I always found joy in creating beautiful spaces and transforming ordinary settings into something extraordinary. What started as a passion for organizing small gatherings turned into a full-blown career when I realized how much I loved the process of designing an experience that people would cherish. The creative aspect of bringing together different elements – color, texture, lighting, and decor – to tell a story or evoke a certain emotion is what really drives me. That love for design led me to pursue this path and turned my passion into a profession
As an event designer, my role revolves around creating unique and memorable experiences for clients. I plan, design, and coordinate events, ensuring every detail aligns with the vision and objectives. My work involves understanding the client’s needs, their story, and turning that into an engaging, visually appealing experience. From selecting the right venue and décor to curating the perfect ambiance, I oversee everything to make sure the event flows seamlessly. Each event has its own story – it could be a wedding, a corporate event, or a celebration – and my job is to bring that story to life in a way that resonates with the audience and creates lasting memories.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey as an event designer were creativity, organization, and adaptability.
Creativity – The ability to envision unique designs and bring a client’s ideas to life is essential. Creativity fuels the entire design process and helps in solving challenges along the way. My advice for those early in their journey would be to practice thinking outside the box and experimenting with different styles, trends, and concepts. Never stop exploring new creative ideas.
Organization – Event planning involves juggling many details at once, from logistics to timelines. Staying organized is key to ensuring every element falls into place seamlessly. For newcomers, I’d suggest developing strong time-management skills and using tools (like project management apps) to keep track of tasks and deadlines.
Adaptability – No event goes exactly as planned, and things can change at a moment’s notice. The ability to stay calm and adjust quickly is a huge asset. To build this skill, I recommend gaining experience in a variety of event types and always being prepared for the unexpected. The more experience you have, the more confident you’ll become in navigating changes smoothly.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I’m always open to partnering and collaborating with talented professionals who share the same passion for creating unforgettable experiences. I’m particularly interested in working with creative vendors, photographers, florists, and venue managers who bring fresh ideas and a strong attention to detail to the table. I’m also excited to collaborate with other event designers who bring their own unique perspective to design, as I believe working together can spark new creativity.
