We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ammari Bourgeois a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ammari, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Being the only one in the room, whether as a woman or as someone who is Black, has taught me the importance of leading with kindness and authenticity. I truly believe that kindness is often undervalued in business, where there’s so much pressure to prioritize profits above all else. I make it a point to treat people the way I want to be treated, and that principle has helped me build genuine and lasting connections.
I’m also a firm believer in the power of active listening. By really paying attention to what my clients and partners are saying—both directly and indirectly—I’ve been able to uncover opportunities to solve problems they may not have even recognized themselves. This approach has allowed me to add value and build trust in ways that stand out.
Lastly, I’ve found success by staying true to myself. I’m naturally bubbly and conversational, and I embrace that, even in spaces where others might be more reserved. I take the time to show genuine interest in the people I meet, which helps me find common ground and create meaningful relationships. By combining kindness, attentive listening, and authenticity, I’ve been able to navigate rooms where I stand out and turn that into a strength
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Noon + Moon Bloom Co. is my creative outlet and passion—a boutique floral design studio that specializes in creating bespoke floral arrangements that tell a story. From weddings to corporate events to intimate gatherings, my work is all about crafting blooms that evoke emotion and leave lasting impressions.
What makes Noon + Moon Bloom Co. special is our focus on blending traditional florals with unexpected, artistic touches. For instance, I love incorporating painted anthuriums, dyed florals, and cosmic-inspired elements into my designs to create something truly unique. It’s not just about the flowers; it’s about the feeling they evoke and the memories they create.
I’m especially proud of the connections I’ve built with other women-owned businesses, collaborating on everything from styled photoshoots to bouquet subscriptions for lobby spaces and waiting rooms. These partnerships bring our community closer together and allow me to bring beauty to places that need it most.
One of the most exciting things I have coming up is an exhibit at the St. Louis Art Museum’s Art in Bloom event this February. This is a dream opportunity to showcase my work in a space where art and florals come together to inspire and uplift. It’s an honor to contribute to such a prestigious event and to bring my creative vision to a broader audience.
Ultimately, Noon + Moon Bloom Co. is about more than flowers—it’s about spreading joy, building relationships, and elevating everyday spaces through artful design. I’m excited about what’s ahead and look forward to continuing to grow our brand, one bloom at a time.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First, my extreme curiosity and excitement to learn new skills have been a game-changer. I’ve always been eager to dig deeper, ask questions, and truly understand the full life cycle of any project or task I’m involved in. This 360-degree approach has allowed me to see how all the pieces fit together, making me more effective and innovative in my work. For those just starting, I’d advise embracing a learner’s mindset. Take every opportunity to explore different aspects of your field—even areas outside your immediate role—because understanding the bigger picture will set you apart.
Second, humility has been a guiding principle for me. I approach each day with the understanding that there’s always more to learn and people who can teach me something valuable. Humility also keeps me open to feedback, which is essential for growth. My advice here is to stay grounded, listen to others, and be willing to adapt when necessary.
Finally, positivity has been a superpower in both my personal and professional life. Challenges and setbacks are inevitable, but maintaining an optimistic outlook has helped me navigate tough situations with grace and resilience. Positivity is contagious, and it often inspires collaboration and trust among peers and clients. To cultivate this, focus on the solutions rather than the problems, and remember why you’re passionate about what you do.
For anyone early in their journey, I’d emphasize staying curious, open, and optimistic. These qualities will not only help you grow but will also make the process more fulfilling and enjoyable.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! I’m always excited to connect and collaborate with individuals and organizations who align with my creative vision. As I look to the future, I’m particularly focused on expanding into retail arrangements and creating large-scale, artistic floral pieces. Hotels, high-end event spaces, and unique retail environments are at the top of my list as ideal collaborators.
I’m passionate about designing installations that transform spaces and create unforgettable experiences for guests, whether that’s a stunning hotel lobby, a curated event, or a retail shop looking to bring charm and beauty to its customer experience.
If you’re reading this and want to collaborate, I’d love to hear from you! You can connect with me directly via email or through social media—let’s chat about how we can bring something incredible to life together.
