Meet Amy Archer

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amy Archer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amy below.

Amy, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

If there’s one thing in life that you have to learn to conquer from a young age it is: BEING OKAY WITH BEING DIFFERENT. So many of our formative years are spent trying to be “normal” or be like everyone else in our class, our team, or group. We don’t want to stick out, be made fun of, or be the source of something that could be deemed “weird.” Everyone wants acceptance. The first step to being comfortable being YOU, is knowing who you are in Christ. The Bible tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made—that we are unique. Begin to lead yourself in celebrating what makes you unique. What do you like? What are you good at? Don’t worry about opinions of others, just stay focused on what you are purposed to do and be consistent. You might be surprised to turn around years later and see some of the very people who you felt intimidated by following your footsteps to freedom. Be unique, and be bold.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I have the privilege of leading worship at church each week, as well as investing into the lives of young musicians and vocalists through private voice lessons and group workshops. I am passionate about giving people tools to succeed in their God-given musical talent, and help them grow by helping them reach their goals in singing. The voice is a full body instrument so it is no surprised to see that once people let go of the lies, insecurity and self-doubt, they are able to sing more freely, confidently and in a healthy way that will sustain them for many years to come. I love to see voices unlocked and potential discovered! You have a sound, release it! Don’t compare yourself, create something beautiful.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Be a life long learner. Find someone who is currently doing what you want to do/be, and follow them. Don’t think you know it all, take a stance of “I want to learn it all.” When you have a passion or dream, move toward it every day. Just taking 20 minutes a day for 30 days results in 10 hours! 10 hours to move you toward what you feel called to do. Don’t waste your time, invest your time. Don’t merely consume content, create it!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

I am child number 8 of 12 kids. Whew. Some of your heads are spinning, I know. While there were crazy times growing up, one thing my parents really instilled in me was the value of hard work. There is no substitute for it. Take the time you’ve been given and make the most of it. You have an obligation to God and to others to be a good steward of the gifts given to you. Every day is an investment, what will you do with it?
