We recently connected with Amy Lord Posey and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
First of all, these prompts were all so inviting and thought provoking. i chose risk taking because for some reason that has come up several times in the last few weeks.
I was a single mom and for many years juggled several jobs just to make ends meet. i literally was up before the kids delivering food on instacart, then getting the kids to school, i was teaching and then would run to my agency job.
i did that and various odd jobs on the weekends including being a lice fairy.
This was working for a long while until it wasn’t. I knew i was a good agent and took the chance and left my bread and butter job to dive in 100%. The cost to me all those years ago was slowly killing me.
i was scared because i was the sole bread winner… the risk to go full force was scary but well worth it.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Eris Talent Agency is a gift. I am partner alongside Tina Contogenis. Having a like minded partner is a blessing. I am a die hard New Yorker and back in the day pounded the pavement as a boots on the ground actor.
i know the walk and dedication it takes to thrive in this industry.
My vision – our vision was to create a climate in the agency that was honest and clear. It is of the utmost importance that our interactions, whether it’s with clients, casting, production or the person delivering our lunch be grounded in kindness.
I know that our integrity and respect has played an integral part in the growth of Eris. That and the ability to put in 14 hour days.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
faith/ stick-to-itiveness – this might look different for everyone. I made some questionable choices in my lifetime which left me in some unsavory situations. i always had a voice that kept pushing me to keep going. listen to your instincts. i wish i had. These are your angels speaking to you.
kindness- it literally costs nothing to be kind and will not only make you and whoever you are interacting have a positive experience – it will build up your karma points!! in this business, you never know who knows who or who is working on something that might be perfect for you. A kind version of you will go a long way.
balance- this is a constant goal. i. know I am more productive and approachable when i tend to all of me. When I eat responsibly, exercise, spend time creating and with my family.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
this ties into self care and balance. it took a while to be able to look back and reflect of choices that effected not only myself but my children as well. Little by little, as i look back and forgive that younger me… I know that there is a way to take those lessons and share them with others.
I speak and share with various people and groups hoping to encourage and let them use me as an example that there is always a way out.
