We recently connected with Amy Painter and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
In my experience developing confidence and self-esteem is a lifelong journey rather than a finite destination. For me, it is a daily exercise to check-in with myself to see how I’m feeling, and what I’m aware of that may need attention within. Because if I am in turmoil within, my outer world and experiences will reflect that imbalance.
Some days, it’s easy to feel confident and strong. On others, it’s more of a challenge. On challenging days, I like to do some breathwork get oxygen into my body followed by going within to ask what feels upsetting, or what is threatening my confidence and self-esteem. Sometimes, it’s unprocessed emotions that need to be felt and heard. When this feels true for me, I find that connecting with my inner child, or other inner parts, is key. The inner child holds the key to so much that’s happening–not just for me, but for all of us. When we consult with this part during times when we feel shaky in our self-esteem, she will often need something from us. That may be as simple as unwavering attention for a little while. A warm hug. Some tenderness. She may have something to say that we have ignored–a particular need, or something that we know is important, but that was dismissed or made wrong. For example, did you have a need that you, or someone in your life, dismissed as insignificant? Chances are good that the inner child is holding onto whatever that was because it was quite important. Hearing and addressing those needs to we pay attention to where we have self-abandoned or sacrificed some important need, can be crucial. This is crucial so the inner child can feel heard, cared for, and acknowledged. When she feels tended to, she is a powerful member of our “team,” providing a sense of joy, creativity, and confidence. Another member of that team is the higher self. I begin every morning by asking my higher self to guide me in every way–every thought, word, deed, action…This compassionate, wise version of self is who I want to guide my decisions and actions. Likewise, the ego is another important member of the team. The ego controls our subconscious and unconscious programming. So, I will also ask the ego to stand behind me in order to offer protection and support. And, I also ask the ego to show me where I may be running old programs that tell me I am unworthy or not enough. Then, I work with the inner child, higher self, and ego to acknowledge, thank, and re-write those belief systems. So, for me, confidence and self-esteem come from the inside, from knowing ourselves fully, honoring how we feel, and being willing to gently release and/or re-write the programs and old belief systems that keep us locked in doubt and unworthiness.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My business is called Kindred Beings (https://www.kindredbeings.com/). We work with animals and their humans in order to support both in all kinds of ways. We enhance human-animal relationships by illuminating hidden causes of behavioral and physical symptoms, by providing intuitive guidance and animal listening to inform decisions, and by providing energy healing and ongoing support through transitions and to promote health and wellbeing. As multidisciplinary healing practitioners, my partner Laura and I reveal hidden messages that inspire powerful new awareness, and help heal subconscious patterns that create illness and distress. We don’t just work with the human or the animal, we prefer to work with both so we are addressing the dynamics of the family system. Sometimes, for example, an animal is reflecting his/her human’s emotional or physical ailment. We work to identify and heal these kinds of patterns so your animal doesn’t need to get sick to show you something that needs to be addressed. We also support people through transitions–getting a new animal, saying goodbye to a beloved animal, or injecting more joy, connection, and understanding into the relationship.
Our work is unique because we see you and your animal as intrinsically connected. Often, we reflect one another, sharing each other’s joys, anxieties, and sorrows. Like us, our animals are also here to live a unique soul mission. This is why we take a systems approach, working with you, your animal, and your larger family system to bring about lasting, positive transformation.
For decades, we’ve supported human and animal clients via family, systemic, and shamanic constellations, energy medicine, animal listening/communication, and compassionate connection that is deeply personal, and customized to your unique needs, and those of your animal.
We stand beside the beautiful people who come to us so they’re not alone, helping them understand their sacred contract with their animal, the animals role, and the breadth of this unique relationship. When we honor the wisdom of this sacred union, our relationships, and our lives, can be transformed.
My particular gifts are vibrational healing and animal listening/communication. I love both, and find that using both together can make a profound impact in our lives (for people and animals). We want everyone to feel the best they can and to live their best lives. I have two horses and spend as much time as possible with animals because I love them all so much.
I love writing our new blog, which we send out in our Weekly Wag e-mail newsletter. You can read the blog here: https://www.kindredbeings.com/blog
We offer a free 15-Minute Call that’s all about getting to know your animals. It’s a great way to tell us about your beloved and about your needs. We also offer a discount to new clients. Just use Welcome10 when purchasing one of our services.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For me, my love for animals and people is a central driver. I have loved animals since I was a child, and have always felt inspired to make life better for them, and to help humans understand they are sentient, conscious beings with feelings and needs. Just like us. I also love writing and communications. I worked in this field for government, higher education, and non-profits for many years. These skills come into play when connecting with clients.
I am also sensitive, compassionate, empathetic, and reasonable stubborn. All have been both challenges and strengths for me, Now, I embrace them as important characteristics that help me better understand humans and animals, and prevent me from giving up my mission to contribute to a world that sees all beings as conscious and deserving of the highest regard, love, attention, and care.
We can improve on these and cultivate other qualities by working with healers and mentors who possess them and are dedicated to supporting people on their path of awakening. Laura and I both enjoy this role, and are honored to work with folks who desire to look within, to develop their gifts, and to come into better relationship with themselves, their animals, and their lives.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents always told us that we were capable of doing anything we put our minds to. That there was no job or vocation we were not fully equipped to do, be, or have. They believed in me.
