Amy, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I believe that work ethic is instilled during our childhood and continues to shape us throughout adulthood. During my early years, I was accustomed to working on my parents’ farm, where tending to horse stalls was a daily routine that earned me $100 a month. This experience laid the foundation for a strong work ethic. Additionally, I’ve come to understand that if you’re passionate about what you’re doing, your work ethic naturally flourishes. My unwavering love for fashion, style, and accessories has been a driving force in my life. This passion has made maintaining a strong work ethic and determination effortless. This is in stark contrast to the scenario where I might not have been as driven if I were working in a different field.
My daughter serves as a constant source of inspiration for me to uphold a solid work ethic. She motivates me to provide for her needs, contribute to our family’s well-being, and manage our financial responsibilities. This drive is fueled by my dedication to not only raise her but also to support our family and tackle life’s expenses.
In essence, work ethic is a culmination of childhood lessons and personal passions. It’s a dynamic force that intertwines with our experiences and the people we care for. As I look back at my journey, I can see how my upbringing on the farm, my love for fashion, and the responsibility of raising my daughter have all coalesced to shape the unwavering work ethic that defines my approach to life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Amy, also known as A Fashion Nerd, a fashion blogger and designer with over a decade of experience in the field. My journey began when I launched afashionnerd.com, but my roots trace back to a farm in Northern California where I spent my early years. These days, I call Los Angeles my home. My educational background includes a degree in fashion merchandise and marketing, reflecting my deep-seated passion for all things fashion-related. Accessories, in particular, hold a special place in my heart; handbags, eyewear, shoes, and jewelry are like pieces of art that I can’t get enough of. Alongside my blogging journey, I’ve also had the privilege of doing design collabs with remarkable brands and designers, often lending my creative touch to clothing and accessories.
While I have aspirations of launching my very own fashion line in the future, it’s not currently my central focus. Instead, my primary attention is directed towards a remarkable and spirited individual – my daughter, Ryder Bird. Around 2 years ago. She’s 3.5 now, Ryder started showing an avid interest in fashion, even at such a tender age. Together, we ventured into creating videos, which gained immense popularity on TikTok, particularly our “how to style this outfit” segments.
Ryder has proven to be a natural talent; she possesses a fantastic sense of humor and an innate knack for fashion. What I cherish the most is our modeling sessions together – they’re an absolute blast! Ryder’s passion for fashion has only grown with time, and now that she’s a bit older, I’m excited to showcase just how much she adores it.
Our journey together in the world of fashion has been a remarkable one, and I look forward to seeing where it takes us next. Ryder’s zest for fashion is infectious, and I’m grateful for the wonderful experiences it has brought into our lives.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Consistency, persistence, unwavering focus, and authenticity – these are the pillars of success in the blogging world. Reflecting on my journey, which began over a decade ago, I can attribute my growth to these core principles. In the early days of my blogging venture, I committed wholeheartedly. I was churning out 4-5 blogs daily, each adorned with 10-12 captivating images. There were no breaks in my dedication; it was an around-the-clock pursuit. This relentless drive soon caught the attention of major brands like Free People, Lucky Brand and Forever21, and I found myself collaborating with industry giants.
My motivation remained steadfast, and my determination never waned. It became clear to me that those who rise quickly in the blogging sphere are those who maintain an unwavering commitment to consistency and persistence. But there’s another crucial element – staying true to your unique style.
In a world where trends ebb and flow, it’s easy to be swayed by the currents of popular opinion. However, I firmly believe that authenticity is the key to longevity. While some may opt for a scattered approach to style and aesthetics, I’ve found that a steadfast focus on a distinct style is what truly endures.
Success in the blogging realm hinges on focus and persistence. It’s about sticking to your vision and pushing forward, even when the path seems challenging. Looking back on my journey, I can attest that these principles have been instrumental in reaching the heights I aspired to achieve.
So, to those who are embarking on their own blogging adventures, remember – consistency, persistence, and authenticity are your compasses. Stay true to your unique style, keep your eyes on the prize, and success will undoubtedly follow.
My advice to everyone would be find someone who is doing what you want to be doing and study them inside and out and follow them but make it your own.

Gucci during Alessandro’s tenure as the creative director was undeniably remarkable. His unwavering focus, sheer determination, and boundless creativity were profound sources of inspiration for me. Under his visionary leadership, Gucci transformed into the most coveted brand in the fashion world. Every item that bore the Gucci emblem became an object of desire for me, a phenomenon that rarely occurs with any brand. Alessandro’s “Hollywood Forever” show, staged on the iconic Walk of Fame in Hollywood, was nothing short of a masterpiece. Each piece was meticulously crafted, with a level of detail and artistry that left me in awe. Even the choice of models, including the likes of St. Vincent and renowned actors, elevated the runway to new heights.
Alessandro’s talent and vision are nothing short of extraordinary, and I’ve often dreamed of the possibility of working alongside such a creative genius. It’s disheartening to see his departure from Gucci, as the brand now appears to have lost some of its vibrancy and direction. The designs feel somewhat more subdued and lack the intricate detailing that once defined the brand’s aesthetic.
In Alessandro’s absence, Gucci seems to have lost a bit of its spark, and I can’t help but yearn for the days when his creative genius breathed life into every Gucci creation. His departure left a void that, in my opinion, has made the brand appear less captivating and, dare I say, somewhat mundane.
I can only hope that Gucci finds its way back to the enchanting and innovative path Alessandro forged during his tenure. His legacy at the brand remains a testament to the transformative power of creativity and vision in the world of fashion.
