We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amy Ryan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amy below.
Hi Amy, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I have worked over the years for big companies and even did a little time in corporate and though every company led me to where I am now I knew something was missing for me. My love for people and coffee and how it brings everyone together was something that never subsided. The desire to create my own place for the community to gather was my passion and didn’t stop until I was able to create that coffee shop I’d dreamt about for nearly a decade.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
The Flying Squirrel Coffee Company is a local downtown Mansfield coffee shop that is a greta place for the community to gather. We pride ourselves in being a one stop shop for a great cup of coffee and great connection. We are excited to be a place for all to gather, rather for Bible study groups, study for school, or just had out with friends we want to be a place everyone enjoys!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most impactful lessons on our three year journey of being in business is first, be ready to pivot. Covid has taught us that we are adaptable and able to make moves when needed, even under pressure. Ensuring patience while we build our brand has been another valuable lesson and lastly your social media presence has to be on point. These are just a few lessons we have learned along the way.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents played a huge role in shaping the woman I have become. My father is the “Flying” part of the Squirrel as he was a pilot and I am a “all over the place squirrel” but he has taught be that we can not allow ourselves to worry about the things we cant control. As I have grown in my faith I also read in the Bible in Matthew where Jesus reminds us not to worry about what we shall eat etc. that if God provides for the crows, he will surely provide for us. Also, that today has enough concerns why worry about tomorrows potential troubles. All very valuable lessons. My mother taught me to love everyone, even when its not easy 🙂 She had a was of being aware of everyones needs and it was her love language to fill that need. If she knew your favorite color was purple, you better believe the next time she saw you she had a little gift for you and it was sure to be purple. She paid attention to the little details that always paid off in a big way.
