We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amy Schromm a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
That’s an excellent question! Many times, I’ve arrived on set as the sole woman, but once I immerse myself in my work, it doesn’t faze me at all. We’re all there to collaborate and deliver our best, and gender becomes a non-issue. These days, my team is wonderfully diverse, and we’re united by our shared passion for our craft and our commitment to delivering our best work.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Amy Schromm, an experienced commercial photographer and producer, and I’m based in the St. Louis area with a creative influence that extends well beyond the boundaries of this city. With years of experience under my lens, I have had the privilege of collaborating with a diverse range of agencies and brands, crafting captivating media content tailored to their unique marketing needs. My mission is to elevate your brand’s visual identity through the art of photography, motion, and visual storytelling.
At my company, we believe in the power of collaboration. That’s why we assemble the perfect team for each project, ensuring that your vision is brought to life with the utmost professionalism and creativity.
Our niche expertise lies in Beverage, Lifestyle, and Corporate brands.
We generate a wide range of content, including work for digital advertisements, billboards, printed materials, websites, and social media content.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I transitioned from the agency studio to embark on my entrepreneurial journey, I leaned on three essential qualities: proficiency in my craft, project management, and nurturing industry connections. For budding photographers out there, my advice is simple: keep that shutter clicking! Pursue your passion relentlessly and master the art of collaboration to enhance your work. Discover the art of marketing your skills and ensuring your venture is not just a labor of love but a profitable enterprise. Learn how to leverage your relationships and grow as a community. Community is your secret sauce, especially when you’re out there solo as a business owner. Community isn’t just about growing your biz; it’s also about not feeling like you’re on a lonely island. Community is key!
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The St. Louis area is brimming with incredibly supportive mentors. Every time I have a conversation, grab a coffee, attend a networking event, or pose a question, I always walk away with a wealth of new insights and knowledge. While I do travel quite a bit, I must say that St. Louis stands out for its remarkable support within both the arts and business communities
