Meet Amy Temple

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amy Temple a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Amy, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I still struggle with this, but trust that each item I make is unlike any other. Even the same designs within a set of cookies will be slightly different. Over time I’ve found my own style and methods that I believe are unique to me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’ve always been a baker, and started taking it more seriously as a business than hobby about 3 years ago. As a stay-at-home Mom to my 3 girls, my business offers me a wonderful outlet to help provide for our family and let my artist side flow. I’m constantly learning new techniques and methods, testing recipes, and have the best taste testers around (my kiddos!). I’ve recently been expanding to more craft shows and farmers markets to spread the word about my sweet business.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three areas that have made an impact on my journey have been enjoying my time in the kitchen, seeking knowledge from others in the baking world, and hunger for success. My advice to others just starting their journey would be to stick with it, it takes time to build a brand and clientele.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
It hasn’t been a single individual, but rather several baking groups I’ve joined over the last couple years. It’s vital to find others within your niche community to learn from, bounce ideas off of, and who truly understand because they’re in similar situations.
