We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amy Tep a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Our purpose is rooted in our love for the community. Growing up in different places, we both faced bullying as Asian Americans. Instead of harboring resentment, we’re committed to representing our AAPI community positively and educating others about our culture. Our goal is to bridge gaps between races and foster understanding.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Amy Tep, and together with my co-founder and business partner Kim La, we established La’Tep Real Estate Group and Ao Corner. Our journey has been remarkable – La’Tep Group is now the top team at BHGRE Metrobrokers in Georgia, ranking 10th across the entire BHGRE network nationwide. We proudly hold the distinction of being the first and only AAPI team to receive such an esteemed award.
Nestled in Duluth, our office includes a unique design center that enhances our client service. The entire office serves as a showroom, allowing clients to envision their future homes. Last month, I was humbled to be recognized among the 25 most Influential Asian Americans in Georgia. To me, this recognition is more than an award; it’s a responsibility I embrace wholeheartedly.
In August 2023, fueled by our passion for culture and a desire to educate others about AAPI/Vietnamese heritage, we proudly inaugurated the first-ever AAPI/Vietnamese-inspired selfie museum, Ao Corner, right here in Duluth. Our journey continues to be a testament to our commitment to community, culture, and innovation.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on our journey, three qualities have been instrumental: perseverance, compassion, and determination. Despite the challenges we faced, Kim and I remained steadfast – we refused to surrender, persisting through even the toughest times. Our vision remained unwavering. From the outset, our goal was self-improvement alongside uplifting those around us. We aimed to enhance our community collectively.
Our commitment to our community and our compassion for others have always taken precedence. These values have driven us forward, pushing us to overcome obstacles and stay focused on our mission. For those embarking on their own journeys, my advice is simple: Embrace your authenticity and let it shine. Don’t allow the doubters to dim your vision. Stay true to yourself and keep pushing forward, because your determination and authenticity will be your most potent allies in achieving your goals.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Our journey has been enriched by the unwavering support of our family, friends, and an incredible community. Their presence has been a constant source of strength. Through their encouragement, we’ve honed our resilience, allowing us to shield ourselves from negativity and stay firmly on the path towards our dreams and vision. The bonds we’ve forged and the positivity we’ve embraced have propelled us forward, enabling us to navigate challenges and chase our aspirations with unwavering determination.
