Meet Amy Zhao

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amy Zhao. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Amy , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I developed my work ethic through my own life experiences. Lost my mom when I was seven years old and grew up with my grandparents. At twenty , I moved to the U.S. on my own, and by twenty-one , I became a mother. Right before Covid I started two restaurants with my ex-husband,I raised my two daughters by myself. Through all of these challenges, I learned the importance of being strong, staying positive, humble and bringing positive energy to my family, my team, friends, even my customers!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

As a small business owner, I’m very focused on three things: flavor, service, and the customer experience. I grew up in Sichuan, where hot pot is not just food-it’s a way of bringing people together! At my restaurant, I make sure the hot pot tastes truly authentic, just like it does back home! I’m also very passionate about service, I want my customers to feel welcomed, cared for, and feels like home from the moment they walk in!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My three most important qualities are resilience, attention to detail, and positive leadership.
I would say: take good care of yourself first, stay positive, stay strong, and keep moving forward , sometimes you have to push yourself a little bit, don’t hesitate to put a smile on your face!

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Definitely my American parents, they helped me when I needed support the most and have always stood by me with unconditional love and generosity! Their kindness gave me strength during some hardest times in my life, and I carry that love with me every day!
