We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ana Carpio And Luis Padilla a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana Carpio and Luis Padilla, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Our optimism is deeply rooted in the culture and community where we were born and raised. In our homeland, people can smile even in the face of life’s toughest challenges. There’s an unspoken philosophy of embracing life with joy and generosity, no matter how much or how little you have. Whether through shared meals, heartfelt conversations, or simply finding small reasons to celebrate, the focus is always on connection, gratitude, and resilience. This mindset naturally fosters optimism, and it becomes second nature to appreciate life’s simplest yet most profound blessings.
What’s truly remarkable is how this perspective resonates as you journey through life. Travelling to different countries and experiencing other cultures often highlights how unique and special this way of seeing the world really is. Meeting locals, learning about their customs, and observing their outlook on life reinforces how fortunate we feel to have grown up in an environment where positivity is not just encouraged but lived daily.
For us, optimism is like an invisible thread—it connects us to the people and places that have shaped us and continues to guide us in everything we do. It’s contagious, just like laughter or love. When you share a smile or extend kindness, you spark something in others, and that ripple effect can be transformative. This is why we believe optimism isn’t just a personal trait; it’s a gift we’ve inherited from our roots and a responsibility to carry forward in our interactions and our work.
In the end, optimism is about perspective—choosing to see challenges as opportunities, celebrating small victories, and holding onto the belief that even in the darkest times, there is always a light worth pursuing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At Supramorphous, we design and create clothing and accessories with responsibility at the core of everything we do. Our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: what if we could shake up the fashion industry and inspire consumers to think differently about what they wear? After countless nights of brainstorming and dreaming, we realized it was time to move from ideas to action. That’s how Supramorphous was born—out of a desire to make meaningful change, one stitch at a time.
Since then, it’s been an incredible journey filled with challenges, breakthroughs, and plenty of joy. One of the things we’re most passionate about is collaboration. We’ve worked with an amazing array of professionals—artists, choreographers, entrepreneurs, photographers, videographers, dancers—the list keeps growing. Each partnership brings fresh perspectives and allows us to explore new creative possibilities. Honestly, we never know what the next collaboration might be, and that unpredictability is part of what makes our work so exciting.
Curiosity and intuition have been our guiding forces. The more we embrace them, the more doors seem to open, leading us to unexpected and enriching experiences. This mindset has recently led to some thrilling milestones. We’re proud to share that we have officially earned our sustainability certification from Global Measure Inc., recognizing our dedication to ethical and circular practices.
On top of that, we were honored (and a little surprised!) to be invited as guest speakers to discuss our processes and our journey as designers in the world of sustainable and circular fashion at one of the largest business meetings for the manufacturing industry in Latin America, where we gave a conference on sustainable fashion. It’s humbling to know that our efforts resonate with others and that we’re contributing to a larger conversation about the future of fashion.
At Supramorphous, we’re not just about creating beautiful, timeless pieces—we’re about sparking curiosity, driving change, and staying open to whatever comes next. This is only the beginning, and we’re so excited for what lies ahead.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, there are three things that have been absolutely vital to our journey. First, the importance of lifelong learning cannot be overstated. The world is constantly evolving, and staying curious and informed has kept us adaptable and inspired. Whether it’s keeping up with the latest industry trends, exploring new technologies, or discovering innovative approaches to sustainability, learning fuels growth. Just as important is the ongoing work of self-improvement. We’ve realized that the only person who can truly hold you back is yourself. Becoming the best version of yourself requires resilience, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace failure as part of the process. Finally, collaboration and shared experiences have been transformative. Opening yourself up to others, their perspectives, and their expertise not only teaches you invaluable lessons but also creates opportunities to grow together. We’ve learned that while it’s possible to navigate the world independently, it’s far more enriching—and impactful—to build communities that support and elevate each other. By embracing learning, self-work, and collaboration, you’ll find yourself continually growing in ways you never imagined.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely, we’re always on the lookout for people to collaborate with! What excites us most isn’t necessarily your background or field—it’s the energy, passion, and drive you bring to the table. If you have an idea, a vision, or even just a spark of inspiration and feel like we might be the right fit to bring it to life together, we’d love to hear from you. Collaboration is all about shared creativity and the magic of combining different perspectives, so don’t hesitate to reach out via email ([email protected]) or DM @supramorphous. Let’s explore what we can create together!
