Meet Ana Hollingsworth

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ana Hollingsworth . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ana below.

Hi Ana, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My life has been full of challenges, but I have learned to rely on myself, and those closest to me to help me overcome any obstacles. I was born to an absentee father, a Norteño that created a new life with a new family in the US. My biological father would randomly visit Mexico, would leave my mom pregnant, spend whatever money my family had saved on alcohol and women before returning north again and again. We lived in a house with holes in the walls for windows and a dirt floor in conditions so bad that my finger was disfigured by a rat gnawing on it when I was a baby.

On the other hand, I learned so much from my mother and grandmother. The never-ending positivity, hardworking and caring nature my mom though me are things that I mirrored, and they’ve helped me to create connections with people that altered the course of my life. My grandmother was very ambitious, even though she had cero academic education, she managed to have her own business at home to provide for her 7 kids, she though me to pursuit my dreams, to work hard and to be ambitious. And even though my biological father, essentially abandoned us, from the few moments that he was present and sober, he’s stressed being the best at whatever you did and to challenge ourselves leaving our comfort zones, so I have to thank him for those few but great lessons, but mostly because thanks to my hard childhood, I am who I am today.

I learned that taking the best from my mother, working hard, delivering on my promises, and making sure to avoid bad habits would create a person that I could be proud of when I looked in the mirror. Sure, I made mistakes along the way. My first marriage was to someone very much like my father. And I put my trust in others that I’ve let me down on the way; however, I have never stopped believing in myself, trying my best in everything I do, learning everything I can, connecting with my loved ones and those who cross my path, and been present for those who need my words or just to be listen and smiling no matter what my situation is, because I know everything is temporary and I may not have control over some things that happen to me, but I have the control of how I face them and what I learn from them.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
After working for more than 17 years in radio and television as a personality in front of the cameras and the microphone, producer and in community outreach, I decided to start my own business Rollos de Mujeres LLC. Through different platforms such as social media, our website and our podcast, we create content by and for Latina women, safe spaces where we can express what we really feel, think and want. My content aims to inspire and equip our audience to achieve their professional and personal dreams. In addition, many brands have joined us through different campaigns. Since God allowed me to have a platform, my purpose has been to work hard to raise awareness and eradicate domestic violence, illiteracy and machismo in our society, because it was those factors that created many wounds in me, and my wish is that other children do not have to go through those hard times.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first quality I think has been being grateful, because even in those moments where we didn’t have much, and domestic violence tormented our home, my mother always taught us to be thankful for what we had. Throughout my life, in the ups and downs, I have always been very aware of how blessed I am.

Hard work and discipline have been part of my life. Also, the simple fact that someone gives me a chance, or that someone listens to me, or that someone trusts me, is something that I take very seriously, it is something which I am grateful for and for which I work very hard and with respect in everything I set out to do. I once heard that talent is nothing if you don’t work hard and create discipline, and I believe that.

Finally, another quality or skill that has helped me is overcoming my fears, leaving my comfort zone and taking risks. From dreaming of studying journalism when, as I mentioned at the beginning, we didn’t even have anything to eat. When I made the decision to leave my country and come in search of my American dream, and there have been several decisions or risks that I have taken, which although they have terrified me at the time, have been the turning point of my professional growth, but even more Importantly, my personal growth.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I am always open to listening to stories, to learning about the challenges that people have gone through and how they have overcome them, to learning from older people, because my God, they are full of wisdom and we must learn to listen to them more, I love to meet experts in different areas and learn from them, but above all to share all that knowledge and wisdom with my audience through my podcasts and other platforms, so if anyone reading this article wants to share their experience, story and expertise in Rollos de Mujeres Podcast, please send me a message at www.rollosdemujeres.com And if a brand or business committed to social causes such as education, physical and mental health, financial education, female empowerment and personal growth is reading us, I would also like to work with you.
