We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ana Pestana a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ana, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I come from a culture that resilience is our second nature. As a Portuguese descendant, I saw my parents come from a foreign country and fight their way through the struggles and hardships that they faced. From learning a new language (english), to the importance of family, and unity. They sacrifice everything to be able to provide for our family. My resilience comes from there. The seed was planted at a young age, and the plant just kept growing, blossoming into the person I am today. Nothing ever came easy to us and that’s okay, I’ve learned to appreciate the struggles as learning experiences so that I can do, and be better. Sometimes I do want to throw down that towel and say what am I doing here? It would be a lot easier having a secure 9-5 job where I wouldn’t have to worry about financials, or how am I going to attract clients into my space. But then I remember the why. Why I’m a holistic health practitioner, why I opened my business, why I want to help people with their own anxieties and stress. The Why is what helps me focus and stay resilient. When I doubt myself, I bring myself inward and ask what’s moving through me, why am I feeling this way. It brings clarity into my being and helps me process what the emotions that are flowing through me. These “negative” emotions are just a way of the mind and body signaling awareness and protection. I just remember that I am not these emotions so I separate myself and find light and motivation to push forward.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Right now, I’m fully focused on my business, Lotus Light Healing to Wellness. I consider myself a holistic health practitioner. I have a toolbox of different modalities and approaches to help people during their healing and wellness journey’s. I provide one on one spiritual awakening coaching for people who are looking to expand on spirituality and connection to the mind, body, spirit. To connect to their intuition, higher selves, their purpose. I also teach yoga, connection to the divine feminine, cycle living, and how to reduce anxiety and stress through breathwork and guided meditations to sooth the nervous system. I’m also a Reiki Master. Reiki is life force energy that promotes relaxation and well-being. I’m highly intuitive and channel messages that can bring clarity to the person who is open to receiving.
During these times of uncertainty, anxiety of what is to come, I feel an energy shift, an awakening happening in society where people are feeling more open to these holistic approaches. I’m excited to be here and share my gifts and light with the world.
I’ve created a group on facebook called MoCo Wellness where people come together and are interested in healing and wellness. Tips and methods are shared to help with self-care rituals, grounding exercises, and soon I’ll be launching a Free community gathering where we can come together virtually and share what’s moving through and get guidance if wanted. You also don’t have to share and can learn from others. I’m also so EXCITED to be hosting a retreat in September of 2025 in Portugal. As a person who knows the land and lived there for 10 years, I consider it to be my second home. We’ll be connecting with the earth, have fun workshops, and activities like surfing/stand up paddle, these are just some of the things that will be included in the experience. I’ll be launching more details about the retreat in January on my website: www.lotuslighthealingtowellness.com
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe that my top 3 qualities/skills that are most impactful would be, first, self-care practices. Doing my own self-care practices like taking a walk through nature, doing my regular meditation practices, breathwork, connecting to myself, my emotions, my mental state, by journaling, are some practices that I use. I have to take care of myself first, before I can hold space for others. As an empath and sensitive it’s my duty to make sure that I’m physically, mentally, emotionally stable so that I can be a clear channel and supportive to others.
Honor and integrity is second on my list. With spiritual work, holding space, and providing unique, specialized sessions for others comes respect and honor with this work. Knowing my limitations, referring to other practitioners with other skillsets instead of taking it as my own. Especially because wellness is a “booming” industry it’s important as a client to do your research, set up a call with your practitioner to see if it feels right for you. Set up a visual call, asking them what are their rituals and practices that they use to stay clear and grounding to hold this space for you. What are their certifications, success stories and challenges. I see a lot of practitioners for example, that just got their Reiki Master’s 6 months ago attuning people to Reiki which in my opinion is a big No, No. Reiki isn’t just being attuned and attuning others, it’s a life long study and commitment. If you’re looking to be attuned to Reiki, I’d say make sure they’ve been practicing for a good couple of years. Use your best judgment on this. Also what are their visions and goals with their practice, what is their WHY? Highly important to make sure it’s not about the money, but what are you receiving, what are you looking to achieve with working with them. Get clear on expectations and goals. Do they resonate with you, how does it feel in your body as you talk to them. Is their clarity, warmth, in their voice.
Lastly, community. Find your community to support you during your journey. A supportive, compassionate community that is there for you. This can be online or in-person but essentially its about can they hold space for you when needed. I talk a lot about holding space and this means the person or people allow you to be seen and heard without judgment or trying to coach and mentor you. Allows you to ask for advice when you want it. Sometimes we just want to be heard without receiving advice. The advice can be projected onto you with what they think or want. Holding space is about what you want and need in that moment.
My advice for people who are early in their journey and want to develop and improve their journey is to have these 3 things. Find a wellness mentor/coach that can help you include practices into your day-to-day lifestyle. Creating something for you that is tangible for your unique life. That celebrates you and your accomplishments. That holds space for you. That works with integrity and honor. Find your why. Why do you want to start, develop, improve your wellness journey? That you feel in your heart that you’re ready to awaken and amplify.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone I can resonate with and can resonate with me and my story. That has been through trauma, high anxiety states, depression, or has started their healing journey, but is looking and willing to go deeper inside themselves and amplify their frequency. They’re ready to do the “damn thing”, rip off the bandaid and heal. That are willing to hear hard truths and purge what’s been stuck inside of them. Are looking to connect with the divine feminine energy, which looks like, tapping into your creativity, the feminine body, your intuition, spiritual meanings and insights. That are looking for ways to connect with the earth, grounding their energy. Have anxiety and want to understand why, what’s triggering for them, learn methods to sooth the nervous system. A empath and sensitive to surroundings and want to learn how to protect themselves so that they don’t feel overwhelmed or take on what isn’t theirs. Overall the client is ready to awaken and improve their journey to healing and wellness.
