We recently connected with Ana Romero and have shared our conversation below.
Ana, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I think that making mistakes helps us to stay creative. Experimental doors can open as a result of trial and error. Obtaining suggestions from customers, loved ones, acquaintances, and social media is helpful. I’m constantly asking myself, “How else can I elevate this idea?” while I write down my thoughts. Getting rid of my inner critic is another crucial aspect of maintaining creativity.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We are Lita Candles, a hand-poured soy wax candle business that exclusively utilizes pottery made by artisans in Mexico. We collaborate with Celaya, Mexico-based artists to select particular works for use. We use Mexican-inspired scents to go with the Mexican pottery, some of our faves being horchata, fresas con crema, and chocolate abue-lita. We make an effort to use real products while creating these candles, such as dried flowers, real chocolate abuelita, and coffee beans. We are currently working on a website to be able to offer ordering services. As of right now we are excited to be part of the Día de los Muertos Ogden on October 21st at Ben Lomond High in Ogden UT. Make sure to come say hello.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The impact that genuine communication has on people is key on all aspects especially with business. Whether it’s with clients or networking having that skill is highly important I would also say that interacting with your clientle is another skill that is important. Keeping my audience involved with the decisions on scents for the candles has been a form for me to hear them out on what it is they want. I would say if any folks are wanting to improve on any of these skills, don’t be afraid to speak out and share your thoughts and get input on your own thoughts.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
When it comes to in-person vending sales and interaction aspects, my husband has been incredibly helpful. Having his assistance and experience is greatly valued because he is a salesman who consistently breaks records in his line of work. I am in awe of his tenacity and cleverness in how naturally he holds these abilities. My mother is my left and right hand woman. I say that because the woman is incredibly versatile and completely dominates any task she assists me with. Her suggestions and connections have been crucial throughout the entire process.
