Meet Anastasia Herman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anastasia Herman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anastasia below.

Hi Anastasia, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My name is Anastasia Herman, and I am one of Ukraine’s leading attorneys in reproductive law. Based in Lviv, I have over 13 years of experience in international surrogacy, having coordinated more than 40 programs in the past 12 months alone, resulting in over 30 live births so far this year.

In a world surrounded by war and the challenges of a pandemic, doing this work—bringing new life, happiness, and light into families—is an incredible source of positivity. Witnessing the joy that comes from creating new lives reminds me every day why this work is so meaningful, and it fills me with hope and energy.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My journey in Family & Fertility law has been driven by a deep passion to support couples from around the world in one of the most emotional and life-changing experiences—creating a family. Since 2013, I have dedicated myself to providing comfort, security, and efficient legal solutions, ensuring Intended Parents feel safe and confident every step of the way.

What makes my work truly special is witnessing dreams come to life—bringing joy, hope, and new beginnings to families. Working with a trusted team of aligned professionals, we turn what can seem like a complex and overwhelming process into a clear, supported, and empowering journey. Today, Ukraine’s reproductive medicine industry is modern, safe, and accessible, and I am honored to guide families through it, helping their dreams of parenthood become reality.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I would say the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are empathy, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of reproductive law.

Empathy allows me to truly connect with Intended Parents and understand their fears, hopes, and dreams. In a field that is often highly emotional, being able to listen and respond with genuine care has been invaluable.

Attention to detail is crucial in ensuring that every legal, medical, and logistical aspect is handled correctly. Surrogacy involves many moving parts, and missing even a small detail can have significant consequences.

Finally, a strong foundation in reproductive law has allowed me to provide clear, confident guidance to families navigating complex international regulations, ensuring they feel safe and supported throughout the process.

For those early in their journey, my advice is to cultivate empathy by truly listening to others, practice meticulous organization in every task, and continuously deepen your knowledge in your chosen field. Surround yourself with mentors and experienced professionals, stay curious, and never underestimate the impact of patience, care, and persistence. These qualities not only help you succeed professionally but also allow you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
The people who have helped me most are my mentors, colleagues, and the families I work with. Mentors guided me through complex legal and emotional situations, shaping my approach to this work. My colleagues inspire me every day with their dedication and teamwork, helping me refine my skills.

Most of all, Intended Parents themselves have been incredible teachers. Their resilience, patience, and devotion have helped me grow in empathy, adaptability, and understanding. Every family I work with reminds me why this work is so meaningful and motivates me to continually improve.
