We were lucky to catch up with Anastasiya Kopteva recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anastasiya, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I have recently had a slight shift in how I think of “self-care” for myself, allowing for a fluid understanding of what “self-care” could mean and prioritizing it with less regard to how others “self-care”. Playing with movement and context, having interesting dialogues with interesting people, and exploring neat concepts and places fills me with joy and energy, and invigorates me across every aspect of life.
I, as many, have a habit of cutting things from my life when on “low battery” mode, however, if there isn’t anything giving refueling your energy, it is hard to get re-energized and continue to feel joy in the every-day. Intentionality in addressing my needs and invigorating my passions has allowed me to be more consistently effective and inspired.
Find out what gives you energy, and make sure to continue to incorporate it into your life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
One of my passions is crafting human experience through innovative technologies and multi-sensory activations.
I am the co-founder and Chief Artistic Officer of ExquisiteMorphs. ExquisiteMorphs provides curated AI art for a variety of uses; we have created visuals for movies and DJ sets, music artist cover art and music videos, and more. Recent projects include creating an hour-long visual experience to accompany a prominent DJ artist on her tour, visuals for several rap and R&B artists, and the graphics for the 2023 LA Tech Week Kick-off After-party, sponsored by Dropbox, Tesla, and others.
Always interested in exploring the world through creation of art and conversation, I also explore the world of sound and story as a recording artist and songwriter for Level 3 Music Group (Produced by Kevin Posey) and as a dancer for select projects.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my opinion, the three main qualities for success are the (1) excitement for and actualization of continued learning, (2) the ability to incorporate learnings, and (3) the ability to contextualize and prioritize happiness and passion.
By (1) having the excitement for and actualization of continued learning, there is an increased foundation of knowledge and experience that provides the opportunity for better (2) ability to incorporate the learnings in ways that help inform decision-making, have “novel” ideas, and find patterns and connections.
Priorities can change over time, and with our lives, we have the ability to “create our own adventure”. Rather than than proceed in a direction solely due to velocity, I try to proceed with intentionality, and reassess factors that impact happiness and support my passion.
My advice to those early in their journey is to not forget your passions, continue learning and exploring, and to keep your mind open to the translatable skills and knowledge built across your passions and endeavors. Everyone’s path does not look the same, and make sure that you are enjoying the adventure you create.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
In my perspective, it’s a bit of both. One person does not have to be the subject matter expert across all matters, however there needs to be understanding on how to best drive a successful direction and result — I think it is very important to understand individual and team weaknesses to be a part of the conversation and decide how to best mitigate and whether to partner, upskill, or restructure.
