We recently connected with Anastasiya Makhonka and have shared our conversation below.
Anastasiya, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Impostor Syndrome is a very common phenomenon experienced by many talented and creative individuals. I am no exception. While it’s impossible to completely rid oneself of it, there are certain methods that can help. I make it a point to record all my achievements and successes, and I collect feedback from my clients. This practice aids me in visualizing my success. Continuously learning and developing myself definitely boosts my confidence. Additionally, I realistically assess my work, acknowledging both its strengths and weaknesses. I also discuss certain aspects with a psychologist, which has proven to be beneficial
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Anastasia. Six years ago, I moved to America from Belarus, and for the past three years, I have been immersed in the world of photo and video production. My professional endeavors include creating content for businesses and brands. Additionally, I conduct individual photo and video sessions, covering a variety of events ranging from family gatherings to larger scale events. I also had the opportunity to create content for the social media platforms of Wolfgang Puck’s restaurants, which has been a significant part of my journey in this field.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. My unique perspective on the world, the way I frame shots, and my ability to tell a story and convey emotions through visual means, significantly contribute to my professional approach in videography.
2. The ability to adapt to various situations is essential in this field. Whether it’s adjusting to changing weather during a shoot or resolving technical issues, the world of video production is inherently unpredictable and dynamic. Being prepared for any scenario is a crucial aspect of my work.
3. Technical equipment also plays a vital role. Creating high-quality content requires not only the right professional gear and lighting but also proficient editing skills to bring the vision to life.
My advice is: do not be afraid. It is normal not to know everything at the beginning. Everything can be learned. Believe in yourself and your uniqueness. This mindset is key to growth and success in this creative and challenging profession.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
As of the onset of 2024, I have set myself an ambitious goal – to expand my social media following to 10,000 subscribers. My strategy involves establishing myself as an expert in the field of video creation, utilizing clear and accessible language to explain the intricacies of my craft. This initiative is designed to not only enhance my digital presence but also to demystify the world of video production for a broader audience.
