Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andre Walker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Andre, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I developed my work ethic early in life. At around 15 years old, I created a clear vision for who I wanted to become and what I wanted to build. Even as a kid, I understood that nothing meaningful happens without discipline, consistency, and sacrifice. That vision became my anchor.

Over the years, I didn’t wait for opportunities, I created them. I put myself in rooms where I could learn, I took on responsibilities before anyone asked me to, and I worked hard in every role I earned. Each step taught me that effort compounds, and that showing up with intention every day is what separates potential from real progress.

My work ethic comes from believing in a future version of myself long before anyone else could see it and then doing the work, day after day to grow into that vision.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the Principal and Owner of Performance Athletics®, a cheerleading‑based fitness organization built on the belief that athletic development should be accessible, intentional, and empowering for every athlete. What I do is more than coaching, it’s creating a system that blends cheer technique, functional fitness, and personal development into one experience that helps athletes grow both physically and mentally.

What excites me most about my work
The most exciting part of what I do is watching athletes transform. Not just in skills, but in confidence, discipline, and belief in themselves. Cheerleading is a sport that demands strength, precision, and teamwork, and when athletes train in the right environment, you can literally watch them step into a stronger version of themselves. Being able to design that environment — from the programming to the culture, is something I’m deeply proud of.

What I want people to know about my brand
Performance Athletics® is more than a gym, it’s a movement. It’s a place where athletes learn how to work hard, stay disciplined, and build habits that carry into every part of their lives. Our brand stands for excellence, professionalism, and community. We’re intentional about the experience we create for athletes, parents, and the programs we partner with.

What’s new and what’s coming
We’re in an exciting season of growth. We’re expanding our services, increasing class capacity, and preparing to open a second location to serve even more athletes in our community. We’re also developing new educational events and resources to support coaches, parents, and athletes beyond the walls of our facility.

Performance Athletics® is growing because the mission is bigger than cheer, it’s about building strong, confident, resilient young people. And that’s the work I’m most proud to do every day.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Versatility and a willingness to learn from every role
From ages 15 to 30, I worked across a wide range of jobs — janitorial work, retail, customer service, sales in multiple industries, and eventually gym management and directing. Those years gave me something incredibly valuable: a real‑world education in how people operate, how businesses function, and how to adapt to any environment. Every job became a classroom for me. Every shift taught me something about discipline, communication, responsibility, and how to carry myself professionally.

My advice:
Embrace every role you’re given, even the ones that don’t look glamorous. Treat each job as a chance to build a skill, a habit, or a mindset. When you approach work with curiosity instead of ego, you grow faster than you realize.

2. Creating my own opportunities instead of waiting for them
I never waited for someone to hand me a path, I built one. Whether it was learning sales, stepping into leadership roles, or eventually running a gym and launching my own brand, I consistently put myself in positions where I could grow. That self‑driven mindset is what allowed me to turn vision into reality. I’ve always believed that if I want something, I have to move toward it with intention and effort.

My advice:
If you’re passionate about something, go all in. Don’t wait for the “perfect moment” or for someone to validate your vision. Start where you are, with what you have, and build momentum. Opportunities show up for people who are already moving.

3. Building a strong support system and having the humility to be guided
Even with my drive, I learned early on that I needed people around me who could guide, challenge, and support me. Mentors, coworkers, leaders, and even tough customers all played a role in shaping my standards and my work ethic. I’ve always been willing to listen, learn, and adjust, and that humility has helped me grow faster than trying to do everything alone.

My advice:
Surround yourself with people who push you to grow. Find mentors who have done what you want to do. Build a circle that keeps you accountable and grounded. Success is never a solo journey — the right support system accelerates everything.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I start to feel overwhelmed, I’ve learned to slow myself down instead of pushing harder. I take a step back, give myself space to process what’s actually causing the pressure, and then come back to the situation with a clearer, more open mindset. That pause helps me separate what’s urgent from what’s just loud, and it keeps me from reacting emotionally instead of intentionally.

Talking things through has also been a huge part of how I stay grounded. Having a therapist has helped me tremendously. Being able to speak openly, get perspective, and sort through my thoughts with clarity makes a big difference. It reminds me that overwhelm isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a signal that something needs attention, support, or a reset.

Strategies that help me most
Step back before stepping forward — create space to breathe and think.

Process the root cause — ask myself what exactly is triggering the overwhelm.

Return with intention — once I’m clear, I go back and attack the issue with a fresh mindset.

Lean on support — talking to a therapist or someone I trust helps me reset mentally.

These habits keep me steady, especially as a business owner where pressure can stack up quickly.
