We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Campbell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
Overcoming writing is a challenge that I have encountered over the course of my career as a writer, and my journey to become a professional writer – and before that as a young person right at the beginning stages of uncovering, my love for writing.
I can say that I have overcame writers block or found ways to overcome writers block in various ways throughout the stages of my life. For instance, as a young poet, I would overcome writers block by going through something heartbreaking, whether it would be relationship wise, or losing a loved one, or just expressing my melancholic feelings at the moment, however, upon developing as a scribe, I start to overcome writers block by simply, writing and reading work from other professionals and prolific writers. That may sound crazy, but hat is one way that I have overcome writers block, by taking the time to just write down what I went through in the day, or journal about my current state or mood – or even use a writing prompt to initiate thought provoking ideas suitable enough to write down. Even more so, as I transitioned into a professional writer, I overcame writers block by revisiting old projects, poetry books that I’ve published, and other writings I’ve done for friends and family, or, simply being encouraged by love ones to continue in on my endeavors. Lastly, I would say the main way to overcome writers block at any level or stage that you may be in, is to understand that writers block is simply a part of the process. Writers block is the experience of an experienced writer, keeping that in mind will help you overcome every time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey is; effective communication, the ability to apply constructive criticism, and consistency. Some advice I would give people who are early in their journey, in terms of how they can best develop or improve on those qualities is to practice them frequently. Effective communication is a necessity to all aspects of life. It is wise and in your best interest to utilize constructive criticism – That is your way to understand what people think and feel about your work, product or services. Consistency is the key to success! If you want to be the best, you have to do your best, and do it all the time.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
One book that has played an important role in my development is, “Conquer Worry and Anxiety” written by, Daniel G. Amen. Some valuable insights I learned from reading this book is how to harness the power of remaining positive through acts of kindness and gratitude. And controlling anger and frustration with breathing techniques and affirmations.
