We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Hall Dawson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence and self esteem developed from my upbringing. I was reared to always walk in boldness. My mother, sisters, grandmother, and aunt ensured that I was well kept. They would always tell me that I’m beautiful. My mother and father taught me to always create my own path. (BE YOURSELF) They instilled core values in me, such as kindness, speaking up for myself, always smile, and encourage others. I’m forever grateful for my family. As an adult, I’ve found a deeper level of confidence in God. Knowing that He loves and adores me gives me courage to walk boldly in who He’s created me to be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Andrea Dawson(36), the proud wife of Calvin Dawson, and mother of James and Jacob Dawson. I’m a native of Shreveport, La.
I am the owner of Gorgeous Glow By Sy. I’ve always had a passion for all things beauty. In 2017, my life took a turn, which caused me to walk away from what I thought would be my career forever. Makeup became my outlet while searching for another job. My husband recognized my growth, and encouraged me to accept clients. I haven’t looked back since. I have the pleasure of meeting amazing women on a weekly basis. Being a makeup artist is my profession and ministry. I strive to embrace each customer with love. I enjoy the connections, conversations, laughter, and helping women feel confident as I enhance their natural beauty.
As of February 1, 2025, I launched “Sy of Relief”. This organization is dedicated to providing women with mentorship, and support they need to thrive and succeed in every aspect of life. The goal is for women to feel confident, valued, and empowered to pursue their dreams.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that have made my journey most impactful are: Consistency, Accountability, and Planning
Consistency is a major factor in anything you do. Everyday won’t be “peachy keen”. Show up anyway! You have the power to overcome any obstacle that you face. On the other side of the trial, there’s triumph.
Accountability! Be honest with yourself and others. We live and learn. You won’t always be right, but there will always be space and grace to get it right.
Planning=Structure
Proper planning minimizes chaos. Align yourself and your plans with the will of God. Always notate your ideas. Be creative and innovative. Planning coincides with manifestation. Speak it, believe it, and see it. Always pray and stay focused on your goals.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I find myself feeling overwhelmed, I take a step back to breathe, pray, and refocus. It’s important to remind myself that it’s okay to feel this way sometimes. I prioritize self-care, lean on loved ones for support, and break down tasks into manageable pieces. Remembering that I’m not alone in this helps me regain my balance and clarity. Taking it one day at a time is the key!
