Meet Andrea Jang

We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Jang recently and have shared our conversation below.

Andrea , thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.

Burnout is definitely not uncommon as a wedding photographer, especially during peak season. Earlier this year, I shot three weddings in one weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. After that marathon of a weekend, I promised myself I’d never book three back-to-back weddings again. Going into it, I knew I had to be extra prepared with backups in place and everything planned out in advance. Thankfully, everything went smoothly and I’m proud to say that all three weddings ended up being some of my absolute favorites I’ve ever captured.

That experience reminded me just how important it is to be intentional with rest. When I’m not shooting weddings, I make it a priority to take real breaks and give myself permission to step away. Sometimes I’ll photograph something totally different just for fun, spend time with family and friends, or simply rest and recharge. I’ve learned it’s okay to say “no” to projects that don’t align with me and just as important, to say “yes” to spontaneous hangouts and slow, quiet days. Listening to my body and giving myself grace has made all the difference.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Andrea. I’m truly humbled by the opportunity to capture once-in-a-lifetime moments as a wedding photographer. I’m based in San Antonio, Texas but I am definitely open to travel anywhere in the world to capture weddings. I get excited about every single wedding I have on my calendar because each one is so unique. No two couples I’ve photographed are ever the same. One of my favorite parts of this job is meeting people and building genuine connections with them. It’s such an honor to get to know my couples and create something meaningful together.

Lately, one technical aspect I’ve been especially excited about is incorporating more film photography into my wedding days. I’ve been shooting film as a hobby for years, just for fun but recently, I’ve started using it more intentionally. It’s been so rewarding to use those film images as a reference when editing digital photos. So moving forward, I’m slowly adding hybrid film and digital photography into my workflow, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful for me are grit, kindness, and staying true to who I am. Grit has pushed me to always strive for a better version of myself whether that’s through continued education or learning from every experience, good or bad. Kindness goes a long way, no matter the situation, and I truly believe it creates lasting connections. And simply being myself has been meaningful. I’ve never really seen trying to be someone else as an option authenticity is what’s keeping me grounded.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal clients are genuinely kind, easygoing, and have a relaxed, carefree spirit. They value meaningful moments over perfection and trust the process of letting the day unfold naturally. They care more about the feeling of the moment than posing for the perfect shot and that’s where the magic happens. Whether they’re laughing with their guests, sneaking in quiet moments together, or dancing barefoot under the stars, they’re fully present. Those are the couples I love working with most.
