We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Riccardi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.
Andrea, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Essentially, my purpose is to stimulate, inspire, and encourage people to travel. Over the years, I have realized how traveling makes me feel free, discovering new countries allows you to experience stimulating experiences and, above all, to know new realities.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
For everyone now I am Andrew, Italian of origin but citizen of the world, I love traveling and discovering what our beautiful planet has to offer us. I come from a creative family and I have shown creative tendencies since childhood also thanks to my dad who taught me the art of photography.
I have a degree in electronic engineering, I play the electric guitar but my profession is EHS Manager for an important American multinational that produces agrochemicals.
I’m really organized and a constant planner. I like to define my trips in great detail, which I tend to do alone, trying to discover the most secret and least traveled places. I have an Instagram account that I have been managing for a few months in which I share my travel experiences, my photographs, in short I try to inspire others to travel thanks to my content.
Up to now I have visited 47 countries but the list will continue to grow. I want to see and explore more and more, among my next travel goals: Japan, Uzbekistan, Madagascar.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Surely there were 3: my family, my passion for traveling, and the desire to study new languages.
Regarding the first point, I must admit that I had a happy childhood; my parents always made me travel, they taught me to find beauty in everything and to look at the world not with a critical eye, but with curiosity and interest.
Regarding photography, I owe a lot to my dad; since I was little, he taught me how to take pictures with reflex cameras, playing with light and exposures. He is passionate about steam trains, and we used to take the most beautiful photos together, him in color and me in black and white. This game sparked a lot of interest in photography for me.
I am Italian but I speak English without particular difficulties; over the years I have studied German (I needed it for my job as an engineer), then French and Spanish, countries that are closer to Latin culture. Finally, I started to study Russian, which allowed me to travel in Eastern Europe more easily. Now I would like to learn an Asian language.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Sometimes I often think about this question and the answer is simple! Time is precious, it should not be wasted, I try to travel once a month and explore the ever-increasing number of places. I would like to visit 70 countries in the world before turning 50.
