We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Sok. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.
Hi Andrea, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I am a storyteller and after a career in nonprofit marketing and communications where I was introduced to so many interesting, inspiring, and innovative stories, I knew I had to find a way to help people share theirs. From small businesses to startups to nonprofits, everyone has a story to tell they just need a little help.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
After more than 15 years in marketing and communications for big brands, I launched Sok Influencer PR to help small businesses, startups, and nonprofits craft their stories and find the voices and vehicles to deliver those stories effectively.
Marketing and communications can be overwhelming with so many options and our role is to cut through the noise to hone in on the right message and the best vehicles to deliver that message. We do this by deploying our unique method, Influencer PR™, which puts storytelling at the core while leveraging traditional public relations and influencer marketing techniques.
In addition to working with individuals and organizations 1:1, my team and I publish a free monthly LinkedIn newsletter, #ICYMI, as well as a monthly email newsletter (https://bit.ly/SokInfluencerPR) curating all the top stories, changes, news, and information that small businesses, startup founders, and nonprofit marketers need to know to level up their marketing and communications strategy. We cut through the noise to bring you just what you need to know.
On a more personal level, I am extremely proud of the work we are doing at Washington Women in PR (wwpr.org). This volunteer-run organization brings together women from all corners of the communications industry to tackle tough topics, elevate best practices, and celebrate wins.
In terms of upcoming events, I am excited for the launch of our nonprofit and small businesses storytelling workshops this fall. These workshops are designed for small nonprofits and small businesses looking to develop their core messaging plus get a few insider tips on how to share their story for the most impact. I will be hosting in-person and virtual sessions. Message us at contact@sokinfluencerpr.com for more information or to register.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Listen. Storytelling is just as much about listening as it is about “telling”.
Learn. Change is constant from technology to media. The lifelong learner will thrive.
Love. You need to love what you do, period. Your passion comes through in your work.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We enjoy collaborating with marketing and business development agencies looking for a higher level of storytelling, communications strategy, and media relations. This can be on a consultative, ongoing, or project basis. We are also always interested in partnering with nonprofits looking for campaign-specific direction or need short-term support (CMO transition, parental leave coverage).
