We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Syglowski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.
Hi Andrea, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I grew up in a small/ish town outside of Philadelphia. My sister is eight years older than me and she loved theatre. I will never forget the time I saw her play the Tin Man in a children’s production of ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ When I was a little bit older I saw a production of ‘Our Town’ at a local theatre and I fell in love with acting. I was just simply blown away. I knew from that point on that becoming an actor was my dream, and as I grew up, storytelling became my purpose. I just think art, creativity, music, dance, theatre, the ARTS! It’s humanity at its best and most elevated.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an actor. I trained at both the University of Southern California and The Juilliard School. I’ve done a ton of work onstage in New York and across the country. Theatre has been my primary passion, but I love Film and TV too. I’m playing Sammy in the upcoming series “The Terror, Devil in Silver” on AMC. It’s set to be released in 2026, and right now I’m performing in a beautiful play called ‘Queens’ by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Martyna Majok, directed by Trip Cullman at Manhattan City Center, Stage One. We officially open on Nov 5th and run through November. Being an artist is a real privilege and responsibility. I work tirelessly at attempting to get to a character’s truth and embodying it to the best of my ability. This theatre business is tough, it’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s my calling. At the end of the day, there’s nothing I’de rather be doing.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I always wanted to be the best that I could be at what I do. I knew that for me to feel confident…I needed to train, to take class, and work on myself. That work never ends. I think I learned early on that I was never going to feel like I nailed anything; a play, a scene, a character…that there is always more work to be done. Showing up on time and being prepared matters. Cultivating a vivid imagination, staying open and vulnerable, and truly listening? Those are skills, as an actor, I learned early on are extremely important, and I am continuing to cultivate them. Also, I learned that being kind is important. When you surrender to the fact that most people are doing the best they can with what they got, and you have an opportunity to lift someone up… just do it. Being of service to another actor, another artist, another vision? True collaboration? That’s where it’s at.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Yes. I have a great therapist! I think actors should have therapists! I joke, but it’s the truth. In my work I am accessing all parts of myself. It’s very vulnerable. I need someone I can meet with once a week, who isn ‘t connected to my industry, to talk it out with, so that I can stay grounded. There is a benefit to living as simply as I can. I also find breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga to be helpful. And prayer. Prayer helps too.
