Meet Andrea Williams

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I developed confidence and self-esteem by removing the need of validation and a care for others opinions about me. I changed my mindset to become untouchable after surviving heartbreak and trauma. Surviving heartbreak and trauma taught me that no one is going to love me like I love me so why not take care of me and walk boldly in me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My mother was a child care owner for her 33 years prior to retiring. I picked up the torch and followed her footsteps in the industry. I’ve been in the childcare industry since I was 13 years old. I started off as a summer camp counselor and grew passionate from their on. What I love about being in child care is the freedom to be creative while healing my inner child as well. At age 27 I became childbearing and decided to open up my own agency that offers private child care and quality service to my clients. I’ve been blessed with continuing and returning clients for over 12 years now to create safe and educational environments for their little ones as well as grow with them.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Number one, always remain teachable. The moment you become unteachable you set yourself up for failure. Both child care and retail industries are continually growing and will always be competitive. though they are both competitive they are both demanded. People want to look good for affordable prices and be able to afford affordable quality child care. The best thing you can do in both industries is to simply be kind, courteous, attentive, and aware.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was instill discipline and structure. Being an entrepreneur requires you to be disciplined because you have no management or corporation backing you up. It all depends on you. I’m grateful that they taught me money management and Independence. Because of that I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 15 years and have yet to face struggles or adversities. They taught me to live below my means but above poverty and comfortable and I feel valuable lesson they ever taught me. My step father raised me on the principle of the two keys to success our patience and perseverance and my father raised me under the principle of you never know what it takes until you know what it took.
