We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andreas Alfaro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andreas, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I have developed my confidence and self-esteem through discipline and consistency but more importantly doing hard things!
I maintain a strict regimen as far as physical and mental health. I push the boundaries of my physical and mental learning capacities on the daily.
I’ve always maintained very complete (some would say slightly overbooked schedule. lol) I do more than the average human being ever since high school. Not only did I go to a classical American high school. I also got the French baccalaureate degree and at the same time did competitive gymnastics, which was like going to school full-time as well as maintaining two part-time jobs.
The same transferred over to my time in college where I went to school full-time and now had five part-time jobs in order to live in New York City.
On top of this, I always push myself out of my comfort zone whether it is physically or mentally. I think it is very important to do hard things consistently if not daily in order to grow your confidence and self-esteem. Something as simple as a cold shower, which is difficult for most not pleasurable but once you finish doing it, you feel accomplished.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My life is primarily composed of two parts as far as careers go. My individual career as a stunt man and Actor , which funnels into my business named the Awakened Warrior, which focuses on growing communities while cultivating people’s Warrior spirit.
At the Awakened Warrior, we primarily focus on retreats where we go camping to nature and train a variety of different modalities to help awaken your inner warrior spirit. We focus not only on the physical, but also on the mental and spiritual components.
We also host community workouts every week in Santa Monica original muscle Beach, where people get a glimpse of what we do at our retreats.
I am also a part of an acrobatic performing group named positive impact movement, which we were featured on America’s Got Talent. And every year we host a movement festival at the Las Vegas Circus Center, where we teach primarily acrobatics, acro, yoga, trampoline, Ninja Warrior, etc…
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the most impactful skills that have served me the most have been:
Discipline, consistency, accountability.
If you are able to implement these three skills into your life, you can do anything. Maintain a sense of discipline know right from wrong, went to act and want to sit still, want to speak and want to listen.
If someone is looking to learn these three skills, I would suggest they find a sport they feel connected to and highly enjoy. And either compete in that sport not necessarily to win, but to learn the discipline it takes for a competitive athlete to implement into their lives. Or to at least take the sport as seriously as if they were to compete.
This is what has taught me the best discipline, consistency, and accountability for oneself that you can apply to any area in your life.
Get yourself into a routine and stick with it. Stick with it, especially on the days when you don’t feel like it those are the days that matter the most.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I’ve had a few mentors and idols. I’ve looked up to through my journey. Which I’ve learned a lot from them yes, but at the end of the day, you only have yourself to overcome challenges.
I’d like to remind everyone that nobody is coming here to save you that is your job. You must save yourself, you must believe in yourself, to a fault. You must believe in your capacities, even when the odds are stacked against you.
That has been the biggest learning lesson I’ve had to this day. A lot of us tend to seek external answers/solutions when we have everything we ever need within us we’re just not looking in the right places…
You and I, we are the only ones responsible for everything in our lives. The sooner we realize this, the easier life gets.
