Meet Andres Lerma

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andres Lerma a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My work of art is animation. I’ve been doing animation since 2015. For my animation, I make short stories. I created 8 short stories. The most excitement of animation is creating my storyline. There is a process of creating animation which is writing a script, design characters, backgrounds, storyboarding, creating sound effects, creating music and voice acting. The best thing is seeing my project coming to life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three important qualities are time management, creativity and organization that were most impactful in my journey. These are the most important qualities because as an animator, you need to be able to develop and create stories. Also, these will help me to stay in track and organize. My advice to the people is to have a calendar, so it can help them to be organize and responsible.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My mother had been the most helpful to overcome my challenges and to help develop the essential skills, qualities and the knowledge that I need to be successful. My mother assisted me by putting me into classes and activities that involve in animation. By being in those activities, it helped me to be more knowledgable, organized, self discipline and responsible. These skills has helped me to develop my own animation stories. Another person who has helped me to overcome challenges, especially in my professional area, my teacher Tawd Dorenfeld from Tink Tank Animate. Tawd is my friend, my teacher, my mentor and because of him, my animation skills has improved. He inspired me to be a good animator by teaching me animation skills and encouraged me to improve my abilities in different professional area of animation.
