Meet Andy Gatenby

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andy Gatenby. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Andy , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from a desire to always achieve more, I want to see how far I can go in life, and I’m not going to get very far not being proactive or having a poor work ethic. This drives me to always push forward. I always say, the only person I’m in competition with myself, so it’s always me vs me. Each week I always try to be a little bit better than the week before, and it’s the compounding effect of this that really adds up.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m the operations Director for CGE Southern, we specialise in all aspects of Domestic & Commercial Gas, Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning. Projects, Planned Preventative Maintenance and Breakdowns, We are extremely focused on client satisfaction and provide a fantastic service to businesses in the South Of England. A side from this I’m also an actor and have starred in films such as Renegades and Nemesis both available to watch on Amazon Prime and Sunray that will have it’s premiere at this years prestigious Edinburgh Film festival ahead of an international release later in the year.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Whatever subject you want to be successful in life, you have to find mentors. The most successful people in the world have all invested in mentors. My advice to everyone is find out what you want to do, Find people who are really good at it. Find a way to work with them or seek mentorship from them. It’s the quickest way to get to where you want to be. Even the best athletes in the world all have coaches/mentors. Look at all the top boxers in the world, how many come out to championship fights without a trainer. None. It’s so important and when I see people struggling with business or life, a lot of the time it’s simply because they don’t have a mentor or someone they can learn from. If you can find someone who can mentor you. It will save years and years of finding out the hard way.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

In my opinion being a good all rounder does not really benefit you. Competition in life is so tough and If you have a skill or are naturally gifted at something. I think you should go in with everything you’ve got. It gives you a much better chance at succeeding and standing out as an expert in that subject over being average at many things. Having said that, everyday is a school day and if you can up skill yourself on the route to becoming a master at what you want to do, then absolutely go for it.
