Meet Andy Mason

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andy Mason a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Andy , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I didn’t find my purpose. My Purpose found me. I never wanted to be a Barber, I ran from it. If you’re familiar with the story of Jonah then I consider myself to be the Jonah of barbering. No matter how much I tried to run and escape being a barber. My running was futile. For example; me going to college and getting a degree or finding a non barber related job. I ended up right back in the barbershop. Based on my rate of success and growth in the shop eventually made it a no brainer that this is where I belong and also due to the fact that no one taught me how to cut hair my natural inclination to the craft made it even more evident that this is what I’m called to do.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I have a Barbershop in Whitehaven and it is not your Typical or traditional barbershop. It is a Premium service facility where we focus on Health and Hygiene while providing a top tier barbering Experience. We offer a variety of Grooming Services from Deep cleansing shampoo before each desired haircut, facials, scalp detox for a premium Bald treatment, beard cleansing and sculpting, Locs and twist services, full body Massages, manicures and Pedicures. There’s no other facility that embodies such a broad spectrum of service for single visit. One can get their hair cleaned, detoxed, cut to their desired request, outlined, beard shampooed, a mini facial, Razor outline(optional) & sculpted to the clients choosing then they can enjoy a manicure keeping their hands presentable and a pedicure for those busy feet and legs. There’s an icing on the cake, which is a full body relaxing massage ranging from deep tissue, therapeutic, hot stone or the top tier that encompasses a portion of each of the different techniques. we provide a one stop shop of full body experience.

We also participate in non Profit work. We Host an annual back to school event at the shop where we give the kids free haircut, food, Backpacks with school supplies, and a BBQ competition. We also do a feed and clothe the Homeless or the less fortunate on thanksgiving day. We also go to a Special needs school call Shrine Elementary and cut the kids hair. We are aware of the struggle the parents encounter in going to barbershop and getting the kids hair cut so we eliminate and alleviate the hassle and discomfort of going to a busy and noise fill barbershop. We also attend different barber school to give back some knowledge, mentorship and education to the up and coming students. We enlighten them on the different things they will need and some of the challenges they will face and how they can maneuver to become a successful barber.

Giving Back is major part of ABSS.llc. We have quite a bit of activities that we are planning on executing in 2025, for example along wit all I mentioned we are going to do a police appreciation, a firefighter appreciation, hosting account classes for new barbers and business, and hosting selfceare workshops for the community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Consistency, Attention to details and commitment. These three qualities has set me apart from other Barbers. Consistency provided me with loyal and recurring clients that trusted me sooner than they would have any other barber. My clients never questioned the services I provided due to this quality.
Attention to details made the quality of my work superior. My clients bragged and raved on the results, stating that they’ve never experience haircuts like this. Every aspect of their haircuts were meticulous, symmetrical and precisely tailored for each client.
While other Barbers are running out of the shop early, partying, or other non barbering activities. I stay focus and committed to growing and becoming the best barber. I was committed to success, committed to quality work, committed to quality service and customer care, committed to growth and change. All of which are why I’m successful today.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Think and grow rich taught me to embrace my idea and don’t stop till I’ve executed and accomplish my goal. No matter how many obstacles or falls or short comings or doubts or drawbacks or failures you encounter don’t stop, don’t quit & don’t give up on that one idea. It list a plethora of successful individuals that have stuck to that one idea that has turned into industries, Enterprises, memorable and reputable companies that we still use and recognize today. If you have an idea do give up on it.
