Meet Andy Michel

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andy Michel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Andy , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Creativity thrives when you nurture it, so I make sure to stay curious and open to inspiration from all aspects of life. Whether it’s through engaging with my community, exploring new places, or even just having deep conversations with my husband, I find that creativity flows when I allow myself to experience life fully. Dance and self-expression also play a huge role I love moving to music, letting go, and just being unapologetically myself. Creativity isn’t just about making things; it’s about feeling free to express who you are. I also challenge myself with new projects—whether it’s content creation, marketing strategies, or even DIY art—because stepping outside my comfort zone keeps my ideas fresh. And, of course, surrounding myself with other creative minds, like the incredible people I work with at Diablos Outsports, always sparks new perspectives and keeps me inspired.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m Andy Michel, a digital marketing strategist, content creator, and creative storyteller based in San Antonio, Texas. My work revolves around building authentic connections—whether it’s through social media, marketing campaigns, or storytelling that resonates. One of my most exciting roles is serving as the Director of Digital Marketing and Social Media for Diablos Outsports, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering inclusivity in sports. Seeing the impact our work has on the LGBTQ+ community and beyond is incredibly fulfilling.

Beyond that, I love expressing myself through content creation, dance, and lifestyle storytelling. I believe in showing up authentically and unapologetically—whether it’s through digital campaigns, personal projects, or collaborating with brands that align with my values. Recently, I’ve been focused on expanding my brand, including launching a podcast and working on creative partnerships that blend my passion for marketing, self-expression, and community-building.

If there’s one thing I’d want people to take away from my journey, it’s that creativity and authenticity go hand in hand. My goal is to continue inspiring others to embrace who they are and find new, innovative ways to connect with their own audiences and communities.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are authenticity, adaptability, and storytelling.

Authenticity – Being unapologetically myself has been a game-changer. Whether it’s through content creation, digital marketing, or community-building, people connect with realness. My advice for those starting out is to embrace who you are and lean into what makes you unique because that’s what will truly set you apart.

Adaptability – The digital world is constantly evolving and staying ahead requires being open to change. From new social media trends to shifting audience behaviors, I’ve learned that success comes from being willing to pivot and experiment. For those early in their journey, don’t be afraid to try new things and learn from both wins and mistakes.

Storytelling – Whether in marketing, social media, or everyday life, storytelling is a powerful tool for connection. Being able to craft a message that resonates has helped me build my brand, create meaningful content, and work with incredible organizations like Diablos Outsports. If you’re just starting, focus on honing your voice—whether through writing, video, or design and find ways to share stories that matter.

The key is to keep learning, keep showing up and never be afraid to evolve along the way.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

One of the biggest challenges right now, especially as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, is navigating the increasing hostility and legislative attacks against our rights under the current administration. It’s disheartening to see policies that directly threaten our ability to exist safely and freely whether it’s attacks on trans rights, book bans, or efforts to roll back protections for LGBTQ+ people.

As someone deeply involved in community-building through Diablos Outsports and digital storytelling, I use my platform to amplify awareness, support local and national advocacy efforts, and create spaces where people can feel seen and valued. Representation matters and I believe that by continuing to show up, share stories, and build connections, we can push back against these harmful narratives.

On a personal level, it’s also about resilience choosing to live unapologetically and supporting those who may feel powerless right now. The fight isn’t easy, but it’s ongoing and I’m committed to using my voice, creativity, and platforms to ensure we don’t go backward.
