Meet Angedith Poggi

We recently connected with Angedith Poggi and have shared our conversation below.

Angedith, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Thank you for this question. I am the only Bilingual Latina in my 9-5 office and at the department of the higher education institution where I serve as an adjunct professor. This is one of many reasons why, as an entrepreneur, my goal is to increase the representation of qualified Latinos in the academic and professional sectors.
Focusing on my goal to achieve success helps me to be effective and successful in my roles. I achieve success by following three steps: (1) understanding why I want to achieve a specific goal, (2) learning about opportunities and ways to achieve the goal, and (3) taking action.
First, I am confident that I am an educated and qualified woman regardless of my age, ethnicity, gender, race, and skin color. As a multidisciplinary professional, I possess a variety of skills that make me more competent, and I continue to expand my toolbox. I’ve completed several certificates after my doctoral degree, such as Leadership and Management, Project Management, and most recently, Data Science. Therefore, I know that I belong in the room.
Second, I have learned that building professional relationships with decision makers is key. I seek opportunities to collaborate with other departments in special projects as a way to make impactful connections. I foster professional relationships by sharing my knowledge and being willing to help when needed. Colleagues know that they can count on me to do my job in an efficient and effective manner.
Lastly, I share my knowledge and passion with others. If I can empower the Latino community to pursue academic, leadership, and professional positions, I would achieve my goal, and eventually I would not be the only one in the room. Representation matters, but we have to be qualified and prepared to be in the room where representation is needed.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As an Academic and Professional Success Consultant, I help individuals, especially Latino first-generation students, achieve their academic and professional goals through individual sessions, mentoring programs, and workshops.

I offer personalized services to graduate students struggling to finish their thesis or dissertation. I am excited about launching a program that guides graduate student to follow my framework in order to finish their research proposal or dissertation in less than four months.

My first infoproduct is a digital course that empowers professionals to make a positive impact on the academic experience of students while monetizing their knowledge. This course consists of nine modules full of information to help qualified individuals understand the importance of pursuing a career in education.

Currently, all of my content and products are in Spanish; however, I do offer personalized services in English. One of my business goals for this year is to launch an English-language website in order to better serve the English-speaking community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There are countless qualities and skills that are impactful in a successful journey.

1. Trustworthiness combines honesty, loyalty, punctuality, and dependability. Working in a team requires honesty and dependability, which fosters long-term professional relationships.
2. Effective communication skills are essential. As an adult English learner, I am always looking for ways to improve my oral and written communication skills. There are numerous ways to improve our communication skills, but practicing is the most effective. Practice!
3. Data science. As the big data and technology industries grow, so will the demand for data scientists. Data science is a combination of statistical principles, business knowledge, and computer science. Gaining or increasing your knowledge and experience in this field can help you land a competitive job.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal clients are Hispanic or first-generation graduate students who are passionate about their research projects but need guidance, support, and a better understanding of the requirements for writing a high impact thesis or dissertation. Also, I enjoy working with people who are looking for job opportunities or want to improve their skills.
In summary, anyone interested in achieving their academic and professional goals would be my ideal client.
