Meet Angel Hney

We recently connected with Angel Hney and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

The simple answer is that I discovered who I am, and the challenges I faced turned out to be blessings I could bring into my work.

During college, I struggled with imposter syndrome. I felt like I had little experience compared to my classmates, and I was hesitant to share my work because I never felt it was good enough.
After graduating, I set out to travel the world on my own Eat, Pray, Love journey, more than once. I found a passion for travel, amazing food, and spent much time in prayer, asking God honest questions and wondering who I was if I wasn’t a designer.
Along the way, my passion for interior design grew stronger. Traveling expanded my creativity and inspired me to draw from the world around me. That’s when my imposter syndrome faded.
Imposter syndrome disappears when you realize that what makes you different can be your greatest strength. It comes down to knowing who you are. I bring a unique view to my work because I’m not just a designer, I’m an explorer, a foodie, and a follower of Christ. No one else can know my journey better than I do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hi, I’m Angel, lead travel coordinator at Chosen Escapes, creative director at TCO (The Chosen Ones), and a follower of Christ. I probably lost some of you at that last part, but stick with me.
If someone had told me this would be my life, I would have thought they were crazy. I went to school to become an interior architect. Nothing about that screamed travel coordinator, but here I am.
Chosen Escapes was built for the person who wants a bespoke trip. My degree in interior architecture gives me a creative eye for landscapes, sightseeing, and picturesque moments. Currently, I am planning Chosen Escapes’s first retreat. The location? Vietnam. The goal is to take a small group of Escapers (that’s what we call our clients) to see a side of the country most don’t know and change their perception. I noticed four types of travel: spontaneous, cultural, adventure, and lounging. Escapers will experience all four on a unique, bespoke, and curated trip. No hostels, no cheap experiences. Expect room service and white-glove service. We do it in style. Speaking of style.
That style extends to TCO (The Chosen Ones), a clothing line founded by my sister, Dere, in 2022. It is a Kingdom brand at the intersection of travel and lifestyle. Many shop for the destination; few are dressed for the journey. Our upcoming collection, Bear Fruit, is resort wear meets airport-ready fits. I am still designing and excited about what is in store!
As for my faith, I stopped being religious, searching for THE answer to all things, the moment I found the truth. Kingdom. I realized wearing a cross or being performative meant nothing. As the famous Dorinda Medley once said, ‘money talks, wealth whispers’. My walk should speak louder than my words. How do I tell others to trust in the Lord when I was living a life I had full control over? I tell people all the time, traveling is where I truly found God.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three most important qualities… faith, endurance, and generosity. With everything you do, do it with the faith that it will work out. There will be many naysayers, so it is up to you to have faith, even if it’s as small as a mustard seed. You also need endurance; there will be many hiccups, but you MUST endure and know that it won’t last forever. A large part of success is being generous to others. We live in such a transactional world; it is important to remain humble and give from the heart. Never be a stickler about money. The more you give, the more you will receive.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

love working with others, and real success comes from the people who help make it happen.
I’m currently working on TCO’s (The Chosen Ones) summer and spring collection. I’m looking to partner with models for campaign shoots and social media marketers to spread the word.
Imagine a retreat that feels like an exclusive brand trip, spotlighting Chosen Escapes and other inspiring businesses. We’re setting our sights on Vietnam to highlight its breathtaking beaches, vibrant cities, and immersive hands-on experiences. This is not a typical backpacker getaway but an intentionally curated, elevated journey. If you have a travel-focused brand, I’d be excited to connect and explore how we can highlight your business, big or small.
You can contact me on Instagram at @chosenescapes or @shoptco_, or by email at [email protected] or [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from my fellow creatives and go-getters.
